Good early game civs ?
I have tried a lot of civs, and finally found one I really like. The huns; I love how good they are early game. They have great units, and a huge bonus to production so I can beat the ai to wonders.

What other civs have a really good early game please ? I already know about the shoshone though :)

Egypt is decent, since you can get chariot archers without needing horses, and the bonus to Wonder building will probably let you nab a few of the holy-contested early Wonders. Babylon is pretty good too; a Great Scientist as soon as you research Writing gives you a significant leg up on technology. Boudicca or Ethiopia are great for getting faith and founding the first religion.

My personal favorites for early-game bonuses are probably the Aztecs and Spain. The Aztecs are great at farming barbarians for culture, and if you're lucky enough to found next to a lake your growth will take off as soon as you get the Wheel. Spain is much more hit-or-miss, but if you found your first or second city next to a Natural Wonder you will reap massive benefits, especially if it's something like Potosi or Lake Victoria or Great Barrier Reef. Even finding a Wonder before anyone else will get you a large sum of cash, probably enough to outright buy your next settler.

Shoshone is my absolute favourite.

They get extra tiles upon settling cities which helps with fast expansion, on top of this they get bonus defence for units within their borders.

The best part though is their unit, the scout replacement - who can pick from a list of options when finding ancient ruins (really helps with early expansion) and who also is basically the strength of a warrior. If you can find ruins and upgrade it, then it becomes a composite bowman! Extremely good both early and late game, as you now have an advanced bowman who can move over rough terrain!

I have a hard time choosing anyone else, but maybe it's because there's no Canada :P

I am new to the game and this post convinced me to play the Shoshone. Thanks for helping me find my new favorite civilization.

Germany for barbarian recruitment, Songhai for barbarian looting, and depending on how early you're talking about, Babylon for the early great scientist boost.

Have to agree with the Shoshone, especially on a large panagea map where you can get loads of ancient ruins and more space to situate your cities. If you're playing an islands/continents/world map then Polynesians are great as they allow you to embark and move over Oceans immediately, giving you a big head start in scouting and settling.

Thank you for the replies everyone :)

I like some who where mentioned. Currently trying arabia too. I just got a start that seems amazing.

I have a river, lots of hills for production, 4 wheat tiles, 3 oasis, 6 inscense and a cotten; plus 2 ancient ruins all within my starting city.
