bug - cant get to next turn
So I have recently acquired a city in a peace deal because I thought I could liberate it. When I noticed that I cant do that because it was never owned by the others I decided to immediately cell it back to its previous owner because I couldnt handle the unhappiness. However, I didnt choose a production process. That "choose production" bar is now still there but nothing happens when I click on it (obviously, because I dont own the city any longer so I cant choose anything to produce) So it is like a dummy button where nothing happens. Wouldn be such a big deal but now it is blocking the "next turn" button and I cant succeed with the game. I tried reloading the savefile and also the entire game but nothing happens. Has this happened to you before?

Of course it is not a big deal because I can simply reload an autosave from 6 turns ago, but still this kind of bug shouldnt happen in a game that is already running for more than 10 years.

It's maybe the well known bug of the game. Just make a search and you find hundreds of results. Only way to continue is what you already found, loading an autosave. And now you can avoid it in the future as you know that you can't ever gift/sell a city immediately once you have got it (in any way), or that bug happens again.

Game's age has nothing to do with the amount of bugs (or little). Bugs are fixed only a short period after the game is released and maybe later if there are DLCs. No new content means devs have moved on to the next game, that's how it worked before the current GaaS (Games-as-a-Service) boom. Civ V is not "running", it's old haven't been developed for almost a decade. Civ 6 is "running" (it's GaaS) and publisher tries very hard push Civ V players out of the game and to switch to Civ 6.

Heh, I've been playing Civ5 since release, and encountered this bug for the first time a few months ago. The More You Know.

It's definitely not a well known bug. This is so fcking stupid that this bug still exists. they made two more games and couldn't bother to fix a few lines of code in this one?

I'm actually done.

One of the issues you find is that the original people who did the coding may well have left the company. So new people trying to change code can have unexpected results. This is an issue MMO's face all the time. When there are thousands of lines of code changing one can impact others with out the coder knowing. Then you break the game for everyone. So since this is a well know bug and there are workarounds that people can use and it is not often encountered they may well have decided to leave it alone. It is caused by user trying to do something that the original programmer did not think about. And as others point out this game is old and they quit supporting or caring about it when Civ VI launched and now we are about to get Civ VII.

And I see you are playing Civ V as I write this so guess you are not truly done.

For anyone interested, encountered this today and was able to fix it by getting the city back the same turn. No save loading was required to fix it with this method.
