What causes the AI to nuke you?
This is the first time that I have been nuked by the AI "significantly." In the past, the AI miiiight use a single atomic bomb, but in this game after declaring war on Poland they nuked every single city I had along their border (about 12 cities) in the space of two turns. My capital they nuked twice on the same turn.

Poland according to http://civdata.com/ has a low "use nuke" value of 4.

This is deity Pangea standard. Poland grew out of control and has ~1 million soldiers in the demographics while I have ~500k.

Yes, I did nuke Poland to try to clear out his unit spam a bit, I suspect if you nuke the AI they're more likely to nuke you back. But the question still stands: what factors increase the chance that AI nukes you?

If they are Gandhi, nuke chance intensifies.:steamhappy:

I rarely use or get attacked by nuclear weapons, perhaps possession or lack of bomb shelters has something to do with it?

Who cares! the more nukes used, the better the game :steamhappy::Uranium:

I'm kinda suspect the 'use nukes' value would imply a weighting system applied to an RNG. Probably something like (RNG * weight value) = number, then IF(number > yes value) THEN use nuke. Could probably see other factors in the first equation, like how much they dislike you, how close your stuff is, diff in military strength, ect.

Ghandi being a nuke monger started out as a programming bug. Ghandi was supposed to have a zero chance of using nukes but things could make that drop to a negative number and someone forgot the programming step that makes a negative number = 0 and so they had number wrap that would take Ghandi to a very high positive number.

Some developer thought the bug was amusing so they included it as a "feature" in subsequent releases.

I would have said that this may have been the issue until you admitted to using nukes.

The other way to prevent this is to make sure that your opponent has no access to uranium by preventing him from expanding into it (great general) or placing a city there yourself, and by pillaging it during a conventional war. You can also use a missionary to lure a barbarian unit to an opponent's uranium and not suffer any diplomatic penalty when the barbarian pillages the uranium.

There are indeed two different statistics in the game for "Build Nuke" and "Use Nuke" but in my experience if nations have enough Uranium and build enough nukes then a declaration of war will probably become an instant nuclear holocaust.

It happened to me a long time ago in a game. Abundant resources, everyone had at least a dozen nukes or more, and every time I declared a war and conquered Cities in the opening offensive, they along with my armies would just get nuked. It was pretty stupid when every single offensive I launched was met with "lol your army is gone now because I nuked my own cities that you just took" and I had to scramble to rally the survivors or build more. And it was every nation in the game that I fought that did that trash. To the point where I built my own nukes for a pre-emptive strike.

Failure to nuke them first.

Letting them get nukes. Stop doing that and they can't nuke you.

I've only ever been nuked by Ghandi, which is a lock once he makes it to the atomic age. I have been threatened by other civs when they got nukes, but nothing ever came of it.
