Game Breaking Bug?
I think i've found a game breaking bug in the game.
I'm doing a no city run with Germany on prince difficulty at marathon speed.

However once I gained enough faith for a pantheon from ruins my game crashed and I was forced back to desktop.

To trigger it (from what I can tell) I:
Have to have no city.
Run around the map and grab a pantheon from ruins/citystates.
Select any type of patheon.

From there the game crashes with no message error or pop up, just gone.

Last post i've seen about this bug is from 2014 on r/civ.

Has anyone else seen this bug before?

The game is intended to be played as a civilization. By playing as a horde you are breaking the religion mechanic.

Check the bottom post here to add a religion toggle:

Does it count as a game-breaking bug if it only occurs if you play the game in a way that wasn't intended?

If you find a religious cs before settling you break game as well.

A no city run? So you just send your one warrior at them?

I dont even understand how you can play the game with out a city for more than 20 turns any way. I cant see a warrior getting you very far. (me thinks this is a troll post)

A religious CS gives 8 faith, you need 10 faith to found a pantheon so it would take 2 religious city states to found a pantheon before settling a city.

Its a player defined challenge where you use Germany's barbarian recruitment to build a horde army and try to win without cities. Not many people doing it figured out that if you intend to play the game in a way that isn't intended and could break something you should use/create a mod.

I didnt think about that 1 civ lol. Still why would you ever want to play like that and its clearly not a bug.

Same reason people do starter weapon challenges in games like the Final Fantasy series. Its a way to add an additional challenge beyond game difficulty.

As a programmer I can tell you no program is ok to crash to desktop. No matter how stupid sounding or abnormal things user does. Propably it assumes something without testing first (classic is using a null pointer). So clearly a bug, but since it requires a very rare way to make it happen I doubt they will fix it soon (if ever)

Oh no the game will never be the same, completely ruined now......

Thank you for the toggle! I was looking for a way to disable religion ingame for a while now!

Yes. It broke the game. Hence it's a game breaking bug.

Ah that makes sense, I wonder if it also breaks when you get X culture for a policy while not having a city. I'll have to try it and see.

Well I am playing as germany who gets free units when you destroy a barb camp, so I can really snow ball early game if I get lucky and get a spearman in the ruins with my warrior. Not to mention when you dont have a city you don't pay upkeep for the troops you have, so you can horde gold and buy up all the military city-states.

It's pretty fun tbh.

Not a troll, just bringing attention to a bug.

^^^^

This.

Also Deity is a pain in the ass to play and the AI is braindead most of the time so this is a nice change of pace.

Yep, i've seen posts about this to as far as 2014/2015, pretty sure it'll never be fixed.

Do! But you will have to tweak some options first.

Do complete kills (So you don't die immediately when you scrap your settler).
Do one big continent like Pangea since you wont have optics to go sailing around to other landmasses.
And put on one-city challenge so whenever you cap an enemy capital you immediately raze it so you wont be forced to keep it.
