Greek Fire achievement
Do you have to sink 10 Greek ships in one game, or across multiple games? (I don't see anything in the achievements.log file counting the kills) They don't have to all be killed by the same dromon, do they?

I'm playing a game now to try to unlock that achievement, but Alex isn't building many ships even tho' it's an archipelago map, and a CS sunk one of them for me :(

I'm trying this one again. Playing a duel map, epic pace, small islands, with raging barbs to try to encourage Alex to build more ships. He still doesn't build many. I see one trireme early in the game, then a couple of caravels much later.

I keep increasing the difficulty and it doesn't matter. At higher difficultly he just spams wonders and missionaries. But I did get my first honest Immortal domination victory, which was kinda cool. Upgrade one or two dromons to galleasses (upgrade the ones with Bombardment and leave the ones with Targeting as dromons) when they get the Range promotion and just take potshots at cities until they get Logistics too. Then you can bring cities down quickly even with walls and castles. I take Targeting III for my 3rd promotion on the ones going that route to get to Logistics quicker.

I know I could get the achievement in Hotseat mode, but what's the point of that?

I can confirm this. Best of luck getting it regularly, but the Hotseat mode option is always there.

I almost got the achievement a couple of days ago at deity level. I probably killed about 8 Greek ships. Some of the caravels I softened-up with an attack from a galleass or my own caravel, but the final hits were all made with dromons. I did get my first real deity win (I got that achievement by winning at deity in a scenario a year ago); that was kinda cool.

I finally got the GF achievement. :woohoo: My second attempt playing on a tiny archipelago map against 3 Alexanders at emperor level. (first time, I got distracted building wonders after the first war, when I should have been fighting a second war) I never saw the achievement popup, But I thought to myself "I've killed an awful lot of Greek ships", and I checked the achievement status and there it was.

So that's how to get it w/o hotseat mode: play at a moderately high difficulty against multiple Greek opponents. Build lots of dromons and only enough culture and gold buildings so you don't fall too far behind there. I don't know that science matters, other than it's nice to get to the medieval era in time to unlock Exploration by the time you finish Tradition, Liberty, or Honor (I went Honor.) I only settled 2 cities, and I did build the Great Lighthouse and most of the national wonders. Other than that, I mostly build cargo ships because they kept getting plundered, but that told me where there was a Greek ship I could go kill so it was a good thing.

One of the first things I built was a shrine, and I took the God-King pantheon and that was enough to found the first religion this time. I wanted the fishing boats pantheon as my bonus belief but it was taken already.

GREEK FIRE Achievement (if you're still struggling, then this method worked for me):
1. Disable BNW (keep G&K).
2. Set up a single-player game with yourself as Theodora (Byzantines) and 3-4 Alexander (Greece) AIs. Prince difficulty, Archipelago map, Tiny size, Classical Era start, Standard pace, Raging Barbarians. Give yourself a cool name like Tyrion of the Wildfire Empire.
3. Found a coastal capital city.
4. Build about a half dozen dromons and the Great Lighthouse (which really helped me spot and outrun enemy triremes).
5. The Alexanders seem to only build one or two triremes at a time for exploration. As soon as you spot a trireme, declare war and destroy it. With your stronger, faster dromons, taking out isolated triremes is a walk in the park. Avoid the cities, but park your dromons nearby to keep an eye on them.
6. With your naval dominance, the Alexanders will pay you for peace and you can easily demand tribute from city-states. Rinse and repeat each time you spot a trireme.
7. Count the number of Greek ships you destroy (remember to always finish them with dromons). I hit ten in the Medieval era, about 50 turns in. Remember that work boats and embarked ground units do NOT count--only triremes and other ships.
Good luck and happy hunting!

Heh, I did this on a duel size archipelago map with just me and one Alex. The goofball kept sending out missionaries in an effort to convert city states that I summarily killed. He built a couple of cities, and I took all but his capital. It’s annoying having to remember not to upgrade your precious dromons.

That's exactly how I did it, except I think I had to play at Immortal or Deity level against 2 or 3 Alexanders to get them to build enough triremes for me to kill. Pretty sure I did an ancient start rather than classical, but classical would be faster.
