Freedom Achievement Not unlocking?
So i was looking through the lists of achievements, as i have slowly unlocked about 50 over the years, But this last play through, i finished the game in a culture victory and was just a 2 policies away from the complete tree, so i kept playing.

for some reason after i filled the tree it never unlocked.. I did unlock another achievement after the victory, which was having 10 Great works of music in 10 broadcast towers, so it would seam like they still unlock even if you "win" the game earlier.

the only thing i can think of is perhaps it is due to Washington having voted autocrasy? Or was it order? I forget.. it's not freedom in the world congress thing. Would that have anything to do with it?

Also, if the entire world is Freedom but him, and i kill him, does that mean that world policy goes away?

So any thoughts on this? Not a huge deal, just wondering if it is a bug, or i am doing something wrong.

the achievements for finishing order, autocracy and freedom are vanilla/gods&kings only and don't apply to the ideology trees in brave new world. you have to roll back/disable BNW or load up an old save that didn't have BNW installed.

Which achievement specifically are you talking about? The one about fully exploring the Freedom policy tree has to be done with Brave New World disabled. (there's also one for Order, and another for Autocracy) In vanilla and in God & Kings, Freedom, Order, and Autocracy were policy trees. In Brave New Worlds, they are ideologies, and that's not the same thing for the old achievements.

Freedom Isn't Free
Fully Explore the Freedom Policy Track.

You have to unlock all of the Freedom social policies to get the achievement.

In the game you were playing Freedom social policies did not exist. Freedom is an ideology in games using BNW.

Play a game without BNW to get the achievement.

:::Jaw wide open:::: ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh that's the problem... Darn expansion! lol

thanks a bunch guys, i didn't make the connection. I've had the game so long now i kinda forgot what it was like Pre-expansions. But i just unlock achievments with out really trying it's kinda fun when something on the list happens and it surprises you. But after i got a few in my latest game i checked um out to see what i got and then pondered the list a bit and saw that one. (i guess not many people actually win the game with Theadora.. so that was kinda fun to see on global stats)

I do check it out from time to time, to give me hits of some new things to try in fresh games.. But totally not worth dropping BNW just to get it.. I play marathon so if i'm gonna go 1k-1.5k turns on large maps, i like all my extra's :)

Thanks for the info though.. much appreciated.

Another thing you can look at with the achievements in Civ5 you've yet to unlock is the color of the locked achievement. Faded grey lock is base game, bright grey lock is one of the smaller DLC, brown lock is Gods and Kings, Gold locks are Brave New World. Any other locks like the one in front of an American/Confederate flag are from Scenarios in the DLCs

ahh, So you have to play in those modes to unlock them? Or can some of them unlock with the DLC?

For instance, last night i got "my little Pony" which is base game, but i had all the DLC added. Is there a list some place that says which ones won't unlock with the different DLC?

Btw, any clue how the senarios are? i never even touched one in my 600+ hours.. I just play marathon sand box games

I've only tried the Mongolian and Viking scenarios, so I'm not a lot of help there. I'd guess the only achievements that couldn't be had with the DLC are the three achievements for fulfilling the culture tracks that are ideologies in BNW, and the subsequent "adopt all culture policies through all playthroughs" though You *might* have issues with the "all wonders" with dlc, I think you need all the base game wonders for that one. The "Modern Major General" one requires you to train from scratch one of every base game unit, even the unique to civ units, so Germany losing the special pike man in BNW might be an issue too, though I think those units in particular get unlocked with the Commerce policy in BNW? (There is an achievement related to mods that was disabled, don't remember which one it was, probably the rating a mod achievement.) My achievement path so far is to only play base game to unlock base game stuff, then turn on the dlc for those achievements. (Man I'm unprepared for the higher difficulty achievements.)

There are only a few achievements where you need to disable BNW.
I like most of the scenarios. The Samurai Invasion of Korea is a good one, and it doesn't take too long to play as Korea. I haven't won it yet as Japan.

thanks.. Yea, i am not to big on them over all.. It is just fun to get some from time to time. So far i have only tried to get a couple, i have 63 now which all but i think maybe 5 were just from playing the game normally and being surprised. One night i was bored and played a tiny map, with Greece and won in under 300 turns to get 3 at one time.. Took me like 30 mins :) But outside of that i just see um as they come, but was currious more than anything..

It was kinda funny though when i noticed one of the ones i did get was one of the lowest % of completion, and i just hit on it. So that was kinda cool.

gonna try to get 2 in one game soon though.. gonna try Korea on emporer to get Turtle power, and Dragon Emperor.. thought that would be a fun combo.. Both are low on the % complete list..

There is another that you need to kill greek ships with Byzantine unique ships.. Had i known i could of done it in the game i just played! I have the Starting save though, so i can replay it, was a great map, and lots of fun civs around too.. China, perisa, mongolia, morraco, washington and poland..

Well, if you ever decide you want to achievement gather (like me) there's some thing you do to steam settings and you can get a debug list showing your progress with all the 1000 of X achievements, all the troops/wonders you still need for their achievements, etc.
