Preventing AI Border Expansion .. via "Mass Periphery Sit-in"
anyone try sending very cheap units (scouts or extra workers, to line up the periphery of an AI CV border so as to sit in their "next possibilty tiles for their border expansion"..

was thinking if this tactic could work if I want to prevent them from getting key resource tiles, which later on the road I may get myself.

Units have no affect on border expansion.
If you have no open borders, the units just get pushed back upon expansion of the border.
You'll need to have at least 2 tiles covered by units than. On smaller maps, this might be feasiable, but expensive with the time spent building/buying units on building/buying buildings. On larger maps, it's impractical.

Sure, it is possible to stop border expansion in the way of settling new cities. I often block areas the AI tries to settle by having my own units present. Not always without declaring war. If there is only one path to settle a city and you have units on that path, the AI won't figure out how to fix the situation. It will just sit there with a settler waiting for you to move :^)

Another useful trick is to do the same thing on archaelogical dig sites. If you don't plan on getting to them quickly and the AI is already spamming out archaeologists, use any spare military units to camp on top of near by dig sites.

Yes I have done this, and it is great, a must.

I was thinking of this 2 mini ROWs of tiles, yes very expensive early on, but if you have spare units later, and on like a very condensed map, as in, there might be no where feasible to "PUSH Me"

or even more practical, what if a mountain range is behind my units backs, my unit won't get pushed onto the mountain tile, and maybe on the other side of the mountain is a another AI civ with no open borders....

Or what if you block "COASTLINE expansion" tiles from the AI emanating from inland, outwards, and you are on those tiles.. will ur units get pushed into the ocean?? what if you DON'T have embarking yet? your units drown?

I had thought about doing this but I use a couple mods that make barbarians really dangerous so it's not that practical for me to do.

Units dont block tile-expansion, period. I had an enemy explorer unit in an unclaimed tile in the middle of my territory, my territory expanded to that tile and the unit was gone, most likely "teleported" outside my borders or back on its owners territory.
