Jaguars to spearmen?
I am giving the Aztecs a try, and found something interesting. The jaguar usually upgrades to a swordsman, but if you get an upgrade though finding ruins, it upgrades to a spearman. It still keeps its ability to heal when it kills another unit, but this puts is into a totally different upgrade path. Do other units get strange upgrades from ruins?

...I can't tell if you're being serious, because literally every warrior upgrades into spearmen.

Yeah, warriors upgrade to battering rams if you're playing Huns. That's a great upgrade, if it's early enough; in the case of jaguars however, the upgrade is totally worthless.

the best upgrade is shosone pathfinder upgrading to comp bows, really useful at start of game

worst upgrade is mounted archers (camel archers...keshicks...horse archers|) upgrading to melee units...all their shooter skills are wasted

Jumping directly from jaguar to swordsmen would be insanely powerful for just a ruins to be honest

the only case where the normal ruin path has an exception (so it isn't warrior -> spearman, scout -> archer or just a normal upgrade) is if you have a pathfinder (shoshones) and you upgrade him. Because then you'll recieve a composite bowman!

Scout -> longbowman -> gattling gun -> etc. Late-game ranged units that ignore terrain and have 2 range are a treat.
