Fighters not intercepting?
I just had a load of Bombers come bomb a city, when I had Carrier next to it with 2 fighters set to intercept. Neither did anything. I'd moved 2 fighters to the city the turn before, so they weren't set to intercept. On that go, set the 2 in city to intercept, and moved carrier over to where Battleships were.

Next go, more bombers attack the cities, lazy pilots drink tea again. A Battleship just 4 tiles away from Carrier, got bombed and sunk - again, no intercept.

What's going on? They were intercepting earlier, now they seem to have quit.

I can confirm that sometimes interception aircraft won't intercept enemy aircraft attacking a city. I have no clue why and when, but it's useful to tell you that this happens to other people.

Maybe someone else will come along and tell me what makes this happen.

Did you rebase them? They don't get set to Intercept when they're rebased.

Did they intercept already? Interception can only happen once per interceptor. If you have a jet Fighter and three Bombers attack you, only one of them will get intercepted. If you have three Fighters and three Bombers attack you, the three fighters will intercept the three Bombers, one for each.

They have started intercepting again, though not every one every time. I had a situation(as I said above), where 2 were on a carrier, set to intercept, and did nothing as the city in the next square was bombed multiple times. On the go before, I moved 2 to that city, and set them to intercept ready for the next go - then moved Carrier. Next go, city gets bombed again, and so does a Battleship 4 tiles from Carrier. Basically, 0 intercepts, out a possible 6.

I don't if there is a dice roll to see if they will 'Attempt' or not. 6 out of 6 was harsh. Thery are going up sometimes now. It's like The Battle of Britain - I must have taken at least a dozen down. (Was easy when they were WW1 Bombers), but he still has 15! He's been buying them, cos somehow he amassed 30,000+ Gold(he now has less than 15,000.

I call that airspam. Try Jet Fighters when you get them, or Mobile SAMs when you get them.

Tip: If you acquire a city through a treaty that has aircraft in it, they're deleted. if he has 15 Bombers, conquer the city to destroy them all, make peace for it to delete them, or buy it to delete them.

I once faced a guy that didn't have fifteen bombers, he had two hundred. And these were just bombers. His entire air force was five hundred aircraft. Bombers, Steatlh Bombers, Jet Fighters, a few Fighters, and Guided Missiles. Again, he had a total air force of five hundred aircraft. I paid someone to declare war on him then bought the city with three hundred aircraft in it. The war helped to destroy what he had left and with his all-powerful air force destroyed, he was weakened enough to be surprisingly easy to take down when I finally went after him myself. I spent almost a hundred turns fighting a Cold War to bring his insane airspam down to a managable level before I went in myself.

It's worth noting that this was in Gods and Kings where there are no Airports and no limit for aircraft in a city. You can base five hundred aircraft in your capital if you want.

According to some research I have just done, you were right in theorizing that there is an internal chance to decide whether a fighter actually intercepts. The Triplane seems to be almost never, the Fighter is better, and the Jet Fighter is the best.

Overall I'd suggest abandoning the air-based anti-air and go for AA guns or Mobile SAMs. Also, Destroyers are a great anti-aircraft ship.

WTF?

200 Bombers, and and 500 aircraft! How the hell is that possible? You should be unbeatable with that airforce. I've got a brilliant Navy, and flattened his - now he's got this terrifying airforce(15 is terrifying to me - when I have 6 fighters).

I have only about 500 gold, and not making any(1 out of 9 traderoutes - rest plundered).

He has his 15 split in 5 cities. I'll probably take one next go, and raze it, that has 2 there - it's in the way of taking another city. I never knew you could buy a city? He did want peace, but I want a Domination win, and he's nowhere near weak enough to leave alone yet.( I have his capital, and one other city). He is the game leader at the minute.

Thanks. Looks like I rolled 6 number 1s that turn.

You can purchase Cities from the AI if you become rich enough, both in Gold and resources. I've never seen the AI accept them for gold alone, and usually you'll need to throw in three or four Luxuries, and five of all the Strategic Resources you have. Cities range in price depending on population, and the lowest I've ever bought one for is five thousand Gold, and the highest was 80k. In Gods and Kings you can use your standing economy, but in Brave New World only Gold Per Turn is tradable without a Declaration of Friendship, which is stupid.

He pretty much expanded like crazy and had over half of an entire continent on a Huge map with 31 Cities. With Abundant resources he very much had the resources to build that many bombers and with the insane amount of Cities he had he also had plenty of Gold Per Turn to sustain his conquests.

The catch? My empire was as large as his, and my own air force consisted of around 40 Stealth Bombers, which are insanely powerful. In fact, an air armada of Stealth Bombers is actually stronger than a single Nuclear Missile, and with the promotions you get they just get more and more powerful.

I was playing a game where I wanted to kill empires and liberate their victims rather than just go for a Domination victory, and this self-imposed rule obliged me to take him down.

I actually had to fight two giant empires with giant air forces in that game, and he was the second one. The first one I just attacked straight-up and I actually had a casualty rate of like four units per turn. Every single turn I would lose three things at least. But, with the purchase mechanic I was able to stream out reinforcements and keep the invasion going, not to mention countering it with anti-air of my own. In the end I declared war a second time after cutting his empire in half, and I rushed a Modern Armor to a city with 50 aircraft and destroyed his airfleet in one turn.

♥♥♥♥ like this happens when you start in the Information Era and reach turn 400 on a regular basis.

I can't really do that here. I've taken his Capital at the other end of the continent I'm on.

I really need to beat him down a lot more, so I can tackle the other continent. He's the game leader in tech(maybe only 1 or 2 in front of me now), and points, and Chair of World Council, and got so much cash:

Yeah, I can't tell if the Brave New World aircraft capacity is an improvement or if it actually made it worse. On one hand you can't build as many aircraft, which cuts two ways and affects the player as much as the AI, but on the other hand, you don't have single cities with half the enemy air force to strike at and destroy it all in one fell swoop. If that's not bad enough, the aircraft capacity is pretty much pointless if the AI player gets large enough and can just plunk ten aircraft in every city he owns.

I must say, I've never played a game, even remotely resembling that.

This guy is not using his Bombers at all wisely - just like the ai always is at fighting. They are just scary though, and could do enormous damage to my Navy (half of my Battleships 2 shots per turn, and the other half nearly there) if he used them right.

I need more stuff, but it'll take time, and I'm worried

:)

Also look at the minimap to see how much territory he actually had before I kicked his ass.

That's just mental. A few fast units, and that 100 bombers should about level a Civ.

Yeah...yep.

The best part is a few turns into the war when he starts sending like 60 of his bombers at one of your Giant Death Robots and they all die because they're at low health...and the GDR still gets destroyed anyway because he had a bomber for every health point it had left...

The good news? That empire is dead now.

Oh also, since you can't see it in the image, I'm the blue guy in the top left corner, next to the brown one.

♥♥♥♥♥♥ death. The amount of Happiness and Gold you've got.

Also the age 2100 something. I had the Germans in an Immortal game running around with Rocket Artillery in 1650!

Looks like one hell of a game. Should have recorded it for YouTube :)

I'm on Epic speed I think, what is that?

My enemy is always losing to science(Space Race). I only play for Domination win, and I'm often in good position, like this game(if he deosn't start actually using those Bombers). It's always such a rush to beat them. If I can get on top of this guy, then beef mysefl up a little, and go for the next strongest, I have a chance. My next target has just completed Apollo program, but I should have many turns before he completes(maybe 80 I hope).
