How to spice up the game after 2,000 hours
I guess you could say I'm a glutton for making things harder on myself, but here are just some fun ways that I've messed with the difficulty for the sake of challenge and for continuing the fun of it.

(noted GOT references)

Trial by Iron: No wonder building.

This basically means you loose out on building key wonders (I know I personally would horde all the wonders in most games.. becoming the lead focus for me and in turn weakening warfare (or if I had certain religions) making me rather overpowered with faith funding. To get the wonders you want you have to take over cities that already have them so the prizes certain cities represent become all the more enticing.. you'll also note that it's a lot easier to field a strong military than you probably thought when you're no longer wasting resources trying to grab up every good wonder.

Trial by War: No settler building.

Basically to expand.. you have to conquer.. you won't get to pick where you'll get these new cities (I never raze), but it certainly saves time and resources towards the battles of the game.

Trial by Bloodshed:

Never have peace.

First time you meet someone.. war them.. and never give in to peace requests (we all know you can cheat the A.I. out of cities doing that.. and that's no way to take a city honorably.. just take it all.. no holding back.. no matter how rough.

This one is a new one I've been trying which is especially difficult if you love having the max civs (22.. though my memory might be fuzzy from civ6) on a map.. and the map gets really crowded and you're war with everyone.. but let's be honest.. they were going to denounce and war you eventually.. now you're just being upfront about it.

((admitedly I'd still leave city states alone and use them for tributes to feed your armies maintenance))

With these combined together, you're in for a game of constant bloodshed and battling increasing amounts of foes to challenge your rule (while also being able to run at lower difficulties so they don't have the immediate advantages or as a single entity), Best of Luck!

For me it is a Vox Populi mod aka Community Patch Project. It basically merges Civ V and IV mechanics and adds more. Its brilliant!

Well I'm happy people are adding their own input.. this wasn't a question post.. but good for you.

I enjoy mods and all but I do find many of them breaking in a lot of points.. I was simply suggesting a different way of playing the game itself.

I know from experience that any strong multi-player game turns into a who can get that wonder first mentality (or me just getting every wonder with ease).. which actually makes for a very boring who can produce it faster and then completely obliterate the other player experience..

( I know you might freak out with the idea of choosing not to build wonders.. but it really adds a lot of fun to the game when players aren't hording them as their main thing the entire time)).

As for the immortal difficulty.. I play deity (8 is above 7) 22 civs, huge maps.. it's not about "top tier" but having a challenge for fun.. and I mean holding onto the edge of every map with civs swarming on every side can be fun. ((I guess I'm only 2,300 hours since 2014.. so I guess you beat me there :P ))

how do you even get that many points. i have 7 cities with like 150 mil pop. i have a religion, tonnes of wonders, finished the tech tree, loads of social policies, and im sitting around 2000. just wondering where im suddenly going to find another 5000 points. perhaps youre talking about domination games? I imagine the only way to massively increase score is by conquering many many cities.
