Distance between cities?
I was under the understanding that there had to be a minimum of three hexes between cities, unless they were on different landmasses (such as different islands).

However, in my current game, I saw with my settler that the "found new city" icon was highlighted for a location with only two hexes between it and an AI city, and they were both on a single landmass.

Has something changed in the vanilla game? Perhaps there's a mod I have installed that's allowing this,

Thanks. I had a look at the GlobalDefines.xml file in both the vanilla and BNW folders. Both had a value of 3 for the MIN_CITY_RANGE, which I think is the default. I also searched for a GlobalDefines.xml file in my Mods folders, but none were found.

So it's a bit of a mystery.

Are you playing with mods? Some mods change the MIN_CITY_RANGE to 2, like YnAEMP for example.

Yes, I think this must be it. I did a file search for "MIN_CITY_RANGE" in the Mods folder and it appears in a RulesChange.XML in the YnAEMP folder. So I'll turn it off if I'm not using it. Thanks.

You should always turn all mods off that you are not using. Civ V always load all mods that are enabled and there can be mod conflicts and even crashes related to mods you are not even using, just because their code is still loaded when the game is started.

Btw. YnAEMP uses that setting because Europe(an civs) would be unplayable without it, based on how many European civs there are. Even with that setting European civs can only hope founding more than 3 to 4 cities in Europe (even on largest maps).

Yeah, I'll double-check the ones I have active.
