Ashurbanipal
Just having a first go at this Civ.

On the face of it, pretty good I think. Game I'm playing, Seoul came and plonked a city, right where I was going to plonk my third. He walked the entire width of the Continent to do it.

Stopped me getting a religion, as it was next to Uluru.

I thought, Oh well, give me chance to try out these Siege Towers. Holy Poo. I built 4, 4 Composite Bows, a Horseman, and had a couple of Pikemen.

Declared war, killed a Pikeman and 2 Warriors. One Siege Tower took some damage. Moved it onto a pasture, so I could pillage next turn - and put two more in range of his city, along with some Composites. City & Archer in it attacked the damaged Siege Tower, but it didn't die. I bumped the city with the other 2, which did monster damage - then attacked with 2 Composites, who got 50% bonus for being next to them, and sailed in with a Trireme, easy as you like. Ashurbanipals ability, is a free tech from a Civ, who's city you conquer - so got Guilds free.

He also has Royal Library, which gives XP for units, once you put a great work of Writing in it( which I just did). Not sure how much XP they get, or whether all units. If it's all Units, and it's 15XP - I no longer need try to get Brandengburg(which I manage about 1/3 of the time, and prize above any other wonder: 3 Promotions, instant Range on Frigates, or Intercept 3 on Fighters if you have Military Academy).

This is a pretty impressive civ, if you want to go for Dom wins, as I do. I Could easily capture Capitals with those Siege Towers.

All in all, big thumbs up for Domination games.

I'll try Venice next, drown everything in money, and if that doesn't work, MORE MONEY

I had a brilliant start location, so I'm sure that helped. Couldn't wish for anything better. At the end, I could have 20 trade routes, but it's costly come war time - and I lost all my routes when I was at war with 3 civs.

I'm glad he mentioned it, cos to be honest - never fancied Venice one bit. I got to build National Buildings, I've never ever had - like intelligence Agency.

I'm having another great game with Keshiks. Surprised I've not won one. This is Fourth attempt, but I got a great start location again(even If I did move quite a way for it), and think this is the time. Just got my second Capital. It's getting hard going though, even with 9 Keshiks, with Range, Logistics, March, and a few with Cover 1(all got Altitude Training too - 5 movement over hills lol). Even next to a Khan, I've been getting about 5 damage against Cities.

Got a few Economy issues, but it's looking good. He's got so many City States allied, it's making Trade Routes very vulnerable. I've not had any out for ages, cos I lost 4 and kept one in port. Now I've got to, I need the Gold. One City is on Gold Focus.

I really want Brandenburg, and started hard building. I just can't though, need other stuff. I hope it's still there, when I get 1000 Faith.

That tenet doesn't actually work for Japan.
What? I just took that tenet the other day... now I feel like I've royally fraked up.

9 Keshiks, with Range

The awesome thing about Keshiks is that they don't even need range.
Move in one space, shoot, then move out. Camel Archers can do this as well, but Keshiks can do it in rough terrain because of their 5 movement.

It's true, but range is still very helpfull. I get Logistics, then Range, then March.

I think they'll make pretty awesome Giant Death Robots!

:)

only issue is they upgrade, well, to giant death robots and not something ranged

Yeah, they'll not have any terrain bonus if they ever get to GDR. They will have Cover, Logistics and March though.

It sounds like that strategy uses zeros as pseudo-bombers. Komakazie attacks are fine, especially with the Autocracy tenet that gives wounded units +25% damage inflicted, but only if you have enough production to replace units. I'd rather have enough where I could heal them up as necessary, or get air repair.

At the same time you have to survive until you get Zeros without someone winning science victory :-)

I played a game last night: Japan, Emperor level, archipelago map, and scarce resources. I wanted to try that carriers full of Zeros thing. I mostly built units that didn't need resources, but I did have a tiny bit of iron, coal, and oil. My plan was to build lots of galleasses, caravels, and privateers. One Samurai whose permanent job would be repairing pillaged fishing boats, and the rest of my iron would go to upgrading my best galleasses.

I smoked the AI's. Eventually I conquered the entire world. I had enough oil for a few battleships, and they were much more effective than the zeros, so I just had one carrier of those. (and all the Zeros had Air Repair) I did not build any bombers or tanks; all my oil went toward battleships. By the end, I had plenty of oil and could have built bombers, but I didn't need any.

BTW, my policies were Honor opener, full Tradition, full Patronage, then kind of pick-and-choosed from Rationalism, Exploration, and right side of Liberty. Freedom for my ideology by beelining Electricity and using Oxford for Radio. I didn't get to found a religion even tho' I researched Pottery first and built shrines right away; they were gone *fast*.

If you have no oil at all, I think tons of Zeros and privateers/destroyers is a good strategy. But there's always oil somewhere. The beauty of Zeros is that they conserve your oil so you don't need much to get your war machine going.

Finaly won as Mongolia.

I've not played as every Civ, but just can't imagine there's a better one for Domination wins. Keshiks with lots of promotions, are good right up to Riflemen - as long as you don't let 2 kill you.

This was my Fifth attempt - but first on Epic Speed.

I just had to do this. Ultimate Tank Rush for Final Capital. 10 Giant Death Robots, every one with Logistics, and March. 4 had Cover 2, the rest Cover one. It actually took just 4, taking 2 turns each, to Capture Honolulu.
