Great Wall
So the great wall only expands 5 tiles from the city i built it in? Kind of a massive drag/eyesore.

Yes i reloaoded the game, the wall did expand, however its not linking up with my other cities

Yes all my territory is connected (sometimes only by one tile mind you)

I understand the wall doesn't occupy all of China's land, however lets not go down the path of whats realistic in this game or not...

Help anyone? is there any way where i can make this look decent? If not im going to reload and not make the wall at all.

Do my cities need to be 5 tiles apart from eachother or something?

The Great Wall works in all your cities, even on other continents, whether the graphic looks right or not. It can get rather stupid-looking when cities change hands. Just save/reload the game to redraw the Wall. Or ignore it.

after reloading multiple times my wall is only extending 5 tiles away from my capitol, it ends two tiles away from my second city, im super confused. Did i put my cities too far apart? It should cover my entire border right?

The effect of the Great Wall applies throughout your territory. The Wall itself only moves out to 5 tiles from the city that built it. It is not a problem, it just looks a little odd.

No, the graphic just covers your borders out to a maximum of 5 (or is it 6?) tiles from the city that built it. And the wall does not update when your city borders grow. But the effects of the Great Wall work in all your territory until you research Dynamite. [note: you can research flight and electronics (battleships) w/o dynamite]

Space your cities however it makes sense. Don't worry about how the Great Wall looks.

It covers all your territory. The appearance of the graphics are irrelevant.

I liked how it looked in Civ 4 much better than this one.

Well, that sucks.

I've got a question regarding this: an enemy has 3 cities surrounded by the Great Wall. He gave me one of these cities as a term of surrender.

Does that city, behind the Wall, incorporate the same bonus once it switches hands? The city doesn't have the Wonder built within it, so I assume the answer is probably no based on the above statement.

Additionally, does this also mean my troops will move 1 space around "my own" city if he declares war, since it is within the border? Just curious how that scenario is going to work should he go to war with me in 15 turns:steamfacepalm:

Well, that was interesting-I had dynamite already researched. He attacked a neighbor, I took his capital that had the Great Wall as a Wonder, that city was located in the center of 3 horizontal cities.

The Great Wall actually shifted; it was covering his "center" and left side city, then shifted to incorporate the gifted city on the right, moving the wall border between the left side city he still has, and the center city I took while he was marching (if I'm making sense).

Update: took the 3rd city to the left, but the Great Wall remained where it re-positioned to the center and left cities. Hate to necro a thread, but I searched discussions because I was personally curious in case anyone else wondered about the Great Wall mechanics and its placement. Still unsure about what tiles "could have been" affected by the opponents Great Wall and the neighboring city he gifted next to his capital with GW wonder.

Update: Reloading the save file restored the Great Wall in its original placement after all three cities were taking. Hope this all helps.
