The comfort bonus at my base suddenly dropped from 21 to 16
And I didn't change anything.
(Yes, there's wood in the hot tub and coal in the hanging brazier)
What could the reason be?

A brief note on the carpets:
It was never intended that each individual carpet would increase the comfort score, so altering this is merely fixing something that was overlooked previously.
As it stands, the earlier max comfort would give you a rested bonus of 30 minutes, which is a full in-game day and night. Now it gives you 25 minutes, which is still a full day and part of the night. If you visit your base to sleep nightly, you will not actually notice the decrease of the timer.
Rest assured, there will be further items added later in the game that will increase your comfort again, this is merely making room for that! :)

its for future items they will be adding. so your comfort level will eventually go back up when those items are added to the game

2 year over sight? Makes no sense to implement this change before these supposed new comfort items even exist.

WTF man. Why would you take away our rested? 30 minutes of rested was hardly enough to begin with. and fighting the stamina regen without it is a joke. :steamsad:

I had assumed the issue was mostly min/maxing, and not being able to max as much, but this comment suggests that some actually use/require 30 minutes of rested bonus, which doesn't make sense to me.

Assuming you're using a portal, it's just a matter of a couple of minutes to hop back to base at the end of the day, and hop back in the morning.

I play no-portal and sleep in shacks. I use the rested bonus clock as my watch to know what time it is. When it gets near zero, I slap down my sleep shack, pass the night, and get my next 11 minutes rested bonus.

What are you doing that requires 30 minutes of rested bonus?

Personally, not spending half my time building huts or travelling through portals. Also nights are no longer dangerous so sleeping is pointless.

Trying to play a game for more than 10 minutes at a time....do you unironically stop every 10 minutes to build a house and sleep? Games in general are a complete waste of time to begin with, but this is just taking it to another level. Anything to keep you from actually doing anything in game.

Do you think 30 minutes is to long of a stretch to play without having to go back to base or build a small shelter and make a fire?

Did I say anything about going back to base? Or do you not know the game mechanic? I can play more than 30 minutes, with rested bonus, without going back to base once. Thanks to campfire. With a very small effort, you can have unlimited rested bonus and don't even need to worry about the perks at a "special location". This is why this change means nothing.

you guys are missing something. I have 19 after, and only 1 holiday item (yule tree) which you can still make (probably for a couple more months?). With the other holiday items, its at least 20 total.

Maybe you haven't installed the patch yet...? Max comfort is now 18 on the test branch.

Am I really expected to think it took 2 years to "fix" this and it was never intentional? I have never been one to use mods in games, but at the rate this game is going it looks like it will be inevitable if I want to continue playing. They are going so completely out of their way to artificially slow down the game play, just hard stop whatever you are doing every 20 minutes and go back to base and sleep..maybe check your soy fields or pet your wifes boyfriends chickens, now that I think about it...why ever leave the shed in the first place?

It means something, I guess you just cannot understand what that is. They are slowing down gameplay, you say it means nothing, well you are wrong. Those couple minutes that you stop and build a fire and sit down to get rested every 10 minutes or so, all your food is still ticking away. So now you have to eat more food for the same amount of time you're actually "playing". Now you have to spend more time farming and raising animals and foraging, now you are spending more time standing in front of the cauldron making food, more time in front of the ovens baking those foods. It's all about increasing the grind, it really isn't that hard to see if you take a step back and stop assuming everything these devs do is gold.

Yes I do. It takes about a minute, unless there is already one available, which there often is.

My gameplay is certainly not for everyone, but when I played with portals, I would just drop a workbench and portal, hop through (pretty much straight into bed), hop out, break down, and carry on. I assume you must do something similar, although every 30 minutes instead of 20?

Unless I'm piddling around the house, hopping home at night makes much more sense anyways. In the field I would spend most of the night dealing with mobs if I didn't sleep, using more food, wear on the equipment, etc.

Yes, I noted it above. It installed the patch but took some time in game to recompute the values (very long time, very weird). Its down to 17 now including yule tree. I had misplaced my armor rack before, so I had 19, +1 for fixing the armor rack, and -3 for rugs = 17.
And agreed, a campfire under a tree or whatever free shelter when exploring. Comfort @ home is for boss fights, really.
Soma Dec 20, 2022 @ 12:18pm
I think comfort should coincide with food. Mistlands introduced 30 minute foods, so I feel I should be able to reach 30 minute comfort. 100% fine with changes and tweaking things. The parry knockback on ranged enemies was removed and then put back in based on players comments. So it proves the devs do listen. The devs have already stated that other comfort items will be added, but again, I feel comfort/food should be related so if it isnt going to be rugs add something sooner than later. Currently food buffs degrade over time, but we can carry multiple food items in our pack. Maybe we need comfort food? Also I place most rugs under the floor, so not necessarily saying I want rugs comfort back, I just want something to bring mistlands comfort back up to coincide with mistlands food.

makes no sense to change it....if its not broke dont fix it
Heindal Dec 20, 2022 @ 12:56pm
I think the reason why this change makes player unhappy, is that there was always a small reward for defeating enemies and monsters in a higher biome. Maybe you couldn't craft something new, but you could get a new rag and at least increase your comfort. It was also a fun mechanic and that is something one shouldn't touch. However I understand why it was changed. Placing rug over rug doesn't make sense. But maybe replacing it should offer a higher comfort reward as a compensation.

Comfort Change?
Over years, literally, I had the perfect setup for a 21 comfort spot in my 'main base'. Now it's 18... I literally changed nothing. Sad. Why?? Just explain why, and I'll be content with that. Dumb change in my opinion, but hey, what does that matter.
