All deference to mods and modders (I myself have modded for thousands of hours over the last 20 years, one took ~1500 hours alone and had around a million downloads).. it would be very nice to see features suggested by the community make it into the game without the need for hooks from 3rd party apps.
I agree, I would rather not have to use mods for something that should be included in the game. It's in early access so maybe they will add it in. I doubt it, but I've seen so much demand from the community for this and it seems like it would be worth it for the devs to add it to the game. Its not that big of a quality of life thing like teleporting ores would be so i hope that makes it more of a chance of being added since you mostly still have to play the game as they intended.
example, greydwarfs, i used to get pissed that i was hording a load of eyes every time i rinsed them but now i've moved on and putting portals everywhere those eyes come in handy to the point i'm depleting my stash so welcome new ones to keep it topped up.
bones and resin are ones i seem to gather lots of with no use for but i'm sure it will all come in handy at some point
This. There are only a few things that drop too much. Almost everything will be used up as you progress. Just because you don't need it now does not mean you wont want it later. Drops aren't always exclusive to any area but a lot of things are more common in certain areas. Having to go farm for more eyes or resin after you spent you so much time throwing them away is annoying.
Storage chests cost nearly nothing to craft and you can have as much as you want.
I recommend saving everything. That said I have little use for bones and some other random stuff. But as a general rule of thumb saving everything is better than filtering out what you think you do not want before you actually have any idea what you will need later.
I think the biggest issue is that it gets sucked into your inventory which is quite underwhelming until you get the +weight belt so you are forced to choose what to drop to continue playing.
With the belt I carry the components for a portal with me and just build it anywhere I need it to pop back and drop stuff off. Only doable past a certain point in the game of course but it works for me.
I am guessing inventory and encumbrance mods are out there but I have never looked. The vanilla inv/weight limit is enough to get you through the game but frustrating for hoarders and packrats.
