But also, I know that later on in the game, I won't use a spear anymore and even if I did, I wouldn't use it for ranged combat, so I'll need the bow skill more than I'll need the spear skill. So that's why I prefer the bow. But it's really good to experiment with different weapons. It feels so good when you discover something you never gave a thought before and it happens to fit your playstyle.
Black forest is much the same. Things there are weak to either fire or blunt which means flaming arrows, torches, and clubs. The only thing vulnerable to piercing is trolls and the bow with flint arrows is the best in this case. I never make spears any more.
Spear is the most powerful weapon in the game.

One of the biggest downsides of this weapon in MP.
They should remove the autopick function just for the spear. I don't like having to manually switch after every throw.

You can also get in a full 3-attack combo with a knife in not much more time (1.72 vs 1.57 seconds) and do (unless I'm missing something) more damage.
I like running down deer with the flint knife in early game.
