You have been misinformed. Caves are there, in the mountains, in the released version. I have found them on my map, while exploring new mountain areas.
trust me i circled around my build for weeks and found not a single cave wich was promised, to appear in not explored regions, and i got tired, cuz it now takes hours to walk to that places, because they are so far and i sunk so many ships and stuff otw traveling to them..
and after weeks not finding any of those caves, i was so frustrated that i gave up the game...
in the end i got back to other games, with a bad feeling to this game developmen in the backpack.
You could try putting your seed into the map generator[valheim-map.world] and click "Show Frost Caves", to see where they are, if you want to verify locations. The generator would assume a completely unexplored map though, so not all locations you see there would necessarily have a cave, if that area had been explored before caves were released.
Well yes there is a way just take all ur stuff, and move to annother server, then crush the old and start a new map and come back with all that stuff, wich means u have to explore eveyting anew, i noticed on the server of my friends silver was plenty everywere, while on mine u had to travel very far to just get a little silver...
maybe ur right the seed of my game is to old and not growing the roots to the new stuff, like it should on a fresh start..
Various things to unpack from that:
1. If you experienced a lack of snow biome cave discovery and it was on a -NEW- map, that would depend on the randomness of the seed. However, there are plenty of tools with which to help you in your exploration or to save you time if you'd chosen to use them.
Perfect example of this is this website: https://valheim-map.world/
It can actually show you where caves should spawn on a seed. However...
2. If your map was one you were previously playing on before the mountain cave update was implemented, there is a likelihood that caves may have not necessarily spawned due to the extent of your exploration. This was talked about over and over again at the time of that update. You should've thus been aware of it then.
All in all this seems to be more of a user end issue than anything due to a lack of due diligence on your part to stay aware of the progressive development of an Early Access game. You are not yet entitled to experiencing the fully completed game and you agreed to that when you purchased(as that's what it means to decide to play an early access game... further supporting the lack of due diligence on your part.
So if rolling with and adapting to changes as they come is something you're unwilling to do then yes, as you imparted, moving on to other games has more merit for you.
I'm not invalidating your passion for the game that you've exhibited across multiple posts mind you, I'm just pointing out the seeming dissonance and offering other considerations for you to mull over.
Did you opt into the beta test?
Did you go to a server with beta enabled?
Is it your old map?
Is it a new map?
If its either of the last two, which is without opting into the beta test, you would not see any of the new features.
The beta test is there to help root out bugs and game balance issue's before release to everyone else. Which has become the norm for games in EA and in AAA game companies now.
Hope that helps you.
Why not use portals to make exploration more accessible and less punishing if you do die and need to get back to that point?
On caves, I've found them but they aren't in every mountain; as others have suggested, put your seed into the mapper to see where they are in your world so you at least know which way to go to find them.
-caves do not spawn on every mountain. the larger the mountain, the better. there are many areas in the game with only a little bit of snow that count as mountains, but they arent big enough to support generation of special biome-specific structures.
-caves that spawn are fairly hard to find, depending on your angle of exploration. i have definitely stumbled upon caves after i was sure i had already explored an area and found nothing. the difficulty of finding them is part of the challenge.
Well, if everyone else can find them, seems you either have bad luck, exploring already explored area's, or are only exploring stuff you got too close to. They are in the game in old world, i know they are, i found them. Or maybe you are just overlooking them, use an online map viewer to be certain.
Of course, playing the game for a super long time for such a slow duration will tell me what works, what doesn't, etc.
Perfect type of game for me to speedrun. I'd speedrun minecraft, but the "game" you need to beat in that game is so dumb that I don't even bother.

I used it when the caves came out, and just again for mistlands.
you can select a specific biome type, meadows, swamp, mountains, whatever. it respawns that zone. and leaves your structures in place. I did have it wipe out a path I chiseled down the side of a mountain, but it left the base alone.
