Indestructalbe tree
So I am at edge of a swamp. Cut down some ancient trees with a bronze axe. Then tried to cut sown what looks like another ancient tree only its like 2 times bigger than the others. MY axe does no damage. It doesn't say 0 like when you try to cut down a core based tree with a flint axe. It doesn't say anything, as if it does not exist. It cab't be cause I am swinging over or under because it is a straight tree standing tall. What the blazes kind of tree is this?

Since its invulnerable I decided to use it for a tree house since it is very near to a crypt.

Yes lots of swamp trees are immune to damage.

Nice, then trolls can't knock it down.

Yep, it is event save up there.
Even Wraiths are no problem. They get stuck on railings and roofs.

Good to know. Just have to stay alive long enough to build it. Chopping wood brought 3 Draugrs, 2 blobs, 5 skels, numerous greydwarves and 1 troll. All curious to see what was making the raquet. Fortunately they didn't all come at once. That was 1 half days worth.

Now this is fairly near where Elder was. I have mined 3 copper mines about 300 yards form here. Been back and forth a ton and explored 4 burial chambers. Not 1 troll did I see all that time. Try to build next to the swamp and it shows up. I called it a day. Getting dark and its too busy with skels and Draugrs. Last then I needed was 2 more Draugr archers to show up about then.

I want to put in a moat also. I figure things will just sit at base of tree, out of bow range if I don't have a moat. But really a troll like this likely knocks me out of the tree if he comes in silent like he did. Without a moat I mean.

Pickaxeing drew more stuff out. Rethinking this location at edge of 2 biomes. Might be better further into Swamp where no trolls interrupt me and then no moat. Or I have to find where this troll spawns and take him out and finish the moat quick.

I build an outpost in each biome and when I reach the swamps, I use those indestructible trees to build a safe outpost for processing my Iron...

Those trees act as "grounded" so when you build up in the tree, any parts that touch the tree are blue, making it possible to build entire base up there.

Here is an example of one (not so high) in a tree, but inside this outpost I have smelter and coal kiln and fire hearth etc.... up out of harm's way... The fence below is just a safety measure to protect the stairs leading up to the outpost.

I find it far easier to gather my iron and bring it here (at the source) rather than trying to ship it across the map

PS this is vanilla, no mods

No reason to even cut down ancient trees, you will find more than enough inside the crypts.

So cool that it is grounded. I fudged up and built too high. Raising stone the max 16 leaves my fire about 6 meters below my floor. I placed a fire on that and made a 2nd pillar nearby the fire with a ladder that takes me through the floor. I get the fire buff, and can add would by dropped down.

May have to add and a 2nd floor. Its totally awesome hearing Draugr sounds and blobs and not having to do anything about it if I am cooking my dinner.

No reason to even cut down ancient trees, you will find more than enough inside the crypts.

Didn't know that, thanks for the tip. I now am set up with outposts at 2 crypts. Been incredibly lucky with the RNG in this world. Walked right up to crypts in both marshes I found. This last one can be seen from the black forest once as soon as you get about 30 meters in.

Got my walkway to the Crypt in. feel like I beat the game now. Time to start scouting a mountain biome.

Not quite sure what you mean about building "too high"... It's possible to build as high as you want, in those trees.

Here is an outpost I built in a Gunk tree and it is very high up and also contains hearth fire, coal kiln and smelter etc... As you can see I didn't raise any ground to place fires on...

Once you get a bit of iron and smelt it, it should unlock stone cutter and iron-reinforced beams... with these you can use iron-reinforced beams in your floor which allows you to place fires...

Those beams also support stone blocks, which allows fires to be placed on the stone, but also allows you to place kiln and smelter high up in the tree OFF the ground....

Obviously you will need to process a little bit of iron prior to being able to build this way, but once you get iron-reinforced and stone cutter, you can build high up in the trees with a fully functioning workshop for processing iron safely.

PS... As mentioned before, this is all un-modded, vanilla game.
