Just have to be able to trust yourself not to cheat within your own game rules. :)
would it not be easier to just hire a troll to do your mining? :)
That is why I suggested taming or training NPCs to do it for us. The game has magic and so I think having a magical miner isn't too far outside the realm of lore. I mean the game has a walking tree.
No.
I think a poll to see where the majority of players are on the subject. My friends and I stopped playing because we only get 3 hours a week to play (game night), and we didn't want to spend each week just farming iron.
I don't know if Valheim has the same player base from a year ago or if it has dropped. If it has dropped, would adding that feature bring them back?
If the game had an automated system you had to work to unlock, then it's not taking away from you doing it your way if you choose not to use them.
The goal is to make the game that people will play and enjoy while staying true to the dev's idea of the game. I wonder if any automation fits into that.
For building you can use cheats or world hop to gather resources and you can even use the console to have it all.
In time I believe they will add a building mode where resources are not needed to build but while it is in early access I am sure they want people to play the game for the data / feedback on balance etc.
We are vikings who invade and dominate the world around us.... not managers
Well that is how I feel about it.
I had a blast playing with two friends, where one focused on hunting and food, another on wood and building (me), and third on mining and equipment. Apart from that, I simply see it as part of the game to harvest things that I need even when solo, and its hard to imagine for me what I would spent the time on if I could automate that like you're suggesting.
State of Decay 2 is a survival game and you get resources daily via outposts. Just so as you're near the end of the game the grind is lessened and a bit more automated. But you still need to go get resources, just not as forced.
How about a DUPLICATOR? Acts like a SMELTER, but duplicates ore (nothing else) and costs the same wood/fuel as a Smelter. Yeah it's faster to go out and mine iron, but you could also plus your total income of iron by also duplicating some while you're out.
Would have the dual effect of:
1. Making gathering a bit less tedious for those that were burnt out.
2. Make use of excess gold coin until the trader is updated.
Personally, I don't mind gathering at all; I just hate when a particularly-important resource early-on (like Tin, for example) is in very, very short supply, which causes me to venture out in to the Ocean much sooner than I want to for some extra.
However, knowing what I do now about that game, that doesn't bother me so much since I can counter anything currently in the game fairly well. But crossing a narrow Ocean path on a raft because you need some extra Tin and encountering a Serpent sure is exciting. ;)
