Building a big bridge
so i just wanted to know if this bridge is a bit too ambitious for either basic wood or the game itself as its constantly red and breaking now

It looks a bit much - check out the wiki for the specs of the different building materials to figure out the limits.

Its not doable if the wooden poles can't reach the bottom. They also decay.
You could consider using stone posts instead.
But heres an example as its doable for sure and fun looks great.

Open Chrome then type in search Valheim Stone Bridges click on Images. These can give a lot of inspirations. Use any words to decsribe what your looking for images are awesome.

As mentioned, that looks like it's going to be too high for normal wood. I made a bridge a quarter of that size and I needed a stone base, wood-iron pillars, and core wood skeleton bracing so that regular wood could be used for the main floors, walls, and roof.

is kinda sad cause i love the look of normal wood but it looks like im gonna need to compromise and actually progress on this world so i can continue it

You are most likely going to need iron beam work with beams over it, but yes you can do it, I believe in you.

The current tallest timber building in the world is 100m high, non-metal reinforced or concrete. There are other buildings around 85m for housing people and offices as well.
But it's a game so...

Here's the bridge project I was talking about.

As you can see, it's a significantly smaller gap and not very high off the ground. Many of the floor boards of the bridge (that you actually walk on) are blue, but as you can see with just a tiny bit of extra height, the pieces are red.

Could very well be something I'm doing wrong or advanced tactics I'm not aware of. I still don't have all the metals discovered yet, and iron gate pieces weren't around when I built this, but I think that's still going to be much too big a gap to close with a bridge of consistent height. You may need to add a contour to it like I did so it stays relatively the same height for the whole length.

Looks like structural integrety, what type of wood are you using?
You could use a 45 angle square wood small piece at each end left and right place it towards the center on eack log that are on the outer ends that may reinforce the 2 outer so the center goes green, and not mess with your space to walk through.
You already have several each end like those, and there's a gap to place one inwards.

I've made an incredibly high and long bridge, high enough for the longship to sail under. Speaking of which, ships have been pretty vital in building the middle of the bridges. And of course the iron wooden beams for all of the support structure. Cover them with other beams if you don't like the aesthetics.

i've built a bridge over a similarly deep chasm in a friends world. but you really have to have iron to do it. you can build a skeleton of iron-wood beams, and then take advantage of clipping to overlay the material you want in such a way that you can't see the beams.

You can build it like this, but on its pathway you will have to max raise the ground as high as possible (and maybe use stone and iron on some parts due to height).

Planting big oak trees could also work as a support. (but it will probaly look ugly)
Probably better to use at least core wood to support long or high bridges.
Normal wood support just isn't going to carry enough to reach very far.

You could always tack some normal wood on it to hide the supports a bit.

IF......

...you happen to be near it when the event starts at which case you still have time to run to the perimeter away from your building as they draw close.
