Whats the difference between normal shields and tower shields?
Was curious if the tower shield blocked more powerful attacks or was the "parry" block was the only difference

... Even if my guess on damage blocked = amount of stamina drained is wrong...

So... your conclusion is based on a guess, and not actual testing?

I have done tests, there's a massive difference in stamina drained between blocking something like a greydwarf and blocking a fuling, which leads me to believe parry isn't just reduced stamina cost for blocking but the stamina cost being tied to the amount of damage being blocked compared to how strong your block value is.

For anyone that wants to check with some commands in a random testing seed: spawn ShieldBlackmetal 1, spawn ShieldBlackmetalTower 1, resetskill blocking 0, raiseskill blocking 100, god (godmode), spawn Goblin 1 (for a fuling), spawn Wolf 1, spawn Greydwarf_Elite 1, spawn Troll 1 are some of the things I used to mess with.

Raised Blocking stat to level 100 and did with level 0 and there was more of a difference in the amount of stamina being drained from a block/parry and and as far as I'm aware the Blocking skills does not reduce stamina costs, only increases damage blocked.

There's seriously no reason to ever statistically use a tower shield in their current state, so many cons with no actual pros.
people with physical disabilities or decaying reaction speed can benefit from them and grant acessability to the game

The parry windows in this game are some of the largest I've ever seen to the point where if someone with said problems just wanted to pick up and use a Round Shield they most likely could use them just fine to a degree.

Thank you for the elaboration. I get that parry reduces stamina cost. Can I verify that you checked stamina drain for non-tower-shields only, and did not compare drain between tower and non-tower shields with similar blocking?

This is a very valid point. Honestly I'm not really one for parrying. What I'm doing now is using a normal shield in the casual areas but strap on my tower shield when going into more dangerous areas

I did both black metal shield and black metal tower with block skill's at 100 and 0, there's only a 15 point difference between the two at base with blocking at 0 with not really any difference at that point in stamina use, turning up the the skill they were still pretty close to each other in drain and parry becoming a complete blowout in stamina drain compared to a block which barely even dented my stamina bar vs a Fuling.

a fully upgraded Banded shield will block anything in the mountains, a fully upgraded iron tower shield blocks just as well as a silver shield when talking plains.

Tower shields primary purpose is in multiplayer when encountering a group of attackers. When being attacked by multiple enemies you may not be able to parry without leaving yourself open to attacks from other enemies taking away the benefit of Round Shields. A Tower Shield allows you to just hold block and soak while other party members deal damage and use you as a human shield, so a traditional mmo tank role.
That being said, the numbers definitely need to be tweaked to give Tower Shields a higher block value.
I agree, to make it more of a choice, the Tower Shield needs to use less stamina and be able to block more damage to offset the movement speed penalty and the fact you can't knock back and get the damage bonus.

You mean shields and the scale shield?
IMHO the other tower shields are useless outside of decoration.
The only shield with higher block than the scale is the BM Tower and you go from 5% to 20% speed reduction for it, while the BM Shield has the same block as the scale, same speed reduction, and adds parry.

Basically use buckler/round until you get scales, then you'll have your shield until BM.

Unless you just really like to parry, scale blocks enough to save the risk.
