Blocking troll

Hey, I just want to ask if you can block trolls attack with first shield. I did that pritty well (every my block stunned them) on previous character, but we started new ones and currently we are on wood/skin equipment. So do i need better shield or is it enough to have basic one to do block it's attack?

you can parry him with a bronze buckler and he'll stagger.
but i have a feeling that even upgraded to the max wooden shield will not be enough to parry him.

as for blocking..since you're fighting trolls that mean you already had a chance to encounter skeletons. kill few til you get 3 trophies and craft yourself a bone tower shield. it can block troll's attack. though i still don't recommend it.

You can actually parry a troll with a level 2 bronze buckler. Don't attempt to parry him with less than that. I wouldn't bother trying to block him in general.

BTW IMPORTANT DETAIL: the two-handed overhand smash is an AoE attack that you can't mitigate, so just dodge it.

Block and parry has been updated to include a stagger mechanic, which is based on your current max HP. If you're not well fed with HP foods a big attack can one-shot your stagger bar, which overpowers a perfect parry like it never happened.

Nah, I was blocking even his Smash successfuly. On my main I was hit by a troll maybe 2-3 times during whole gameplay (not including From-behind ambushes during combat). If blocking system wasnt changed in this update, then when i get right shield there is no chances that i wont block it perfectly (Im a DMC Fan and I do understand timing rly good xd)

i did it with lvl1 and had no problems. idk if the fact that i was wearing full troll armor set changes anything, but nontheless.

blocking troll...dumb idee period...2 headshot will finish them(more if you have wood bows)

lvl 2 bronze buckler and about 95 health and you can parry an unarmed troll no problem

Once I have the right gears (i.e. bronze buckler), I'd rather use shield/dagger than bow. Makes the fight much faster and somewhat safer (if you are good at parrying). I just couldn't fight the troll in his cave with the bow anyway. But now that I'm better at the game, maybe I could try again. Still... Bronze buckler + dagger FTW!

I believe I did OK with bronze buckler lvl 1, but it's been a while so...

Buckler+spear have more pierce dps than dagger

is it though? lvl 1 abyssal razor will deal 300 damage to troll with a special attack (60*1.5+60*1)x2
while bronze spear lvl 1-4 will only deal 157-240 (lvl1: 52.5*1.5*2 , lvl4:79.5*1.5*2)

and it's way easier to get abyssal razor (so easy that it's usually my 1st dagger now) then to get fully upgraded bronze spear.

and even copper knife lvl1-4 will deal 180-225 damage. and it's also considerably easier to craft

everyone can. just press a middle mouse button and throw it in a face (in melee range you'll immediately pick it up)

You need bronze shields at least. The buckler should parry, while the tower should block all the way, unless the most recent update changed that.

He's weak to thrust attacks, so a standard spear will ♥♥♥♥ him up, pretty easy to do at close range too since you can attack so rapidly with them.
