There are always 3 moder altars in the world.
If you don’t believe me you can go into the valheim world generator and run random maps to your hearts content, but you will always find 3 moder altars
Try this seed:
Xk2jSnHME6
Any old worlds without the modor spawn could run a command to fix them.
If you're running an old world, that may pose a problem...
Could run a command, or just jump across to another seed, kill Moder as many times as you want and bring the head(s)* and tears to your main world.
* Depending on whether you just want one head for the boss buff, or want some for decoration and/or storage, too...
Looks like 3 to me:

Or zero, if you use the older patches where this was first reported. Glad they fixed it.
Eikthyr is in the middle of the map, the rest are further away.
Even now i have seen seeds where Elder is more than half the distance to the edge, some where 2xeikthyr+2xElder are all player-visible from each others position as they are that close, and some where Moder can only be found in the outermost 1/4th the map.
The distribution is just too random, they should be a few more spawns for them and a bit more even. For a new player it is a huge difference if the Elder is on the same island, or 2 islands away next to a swap/plains with bad luck. (yes, you can have the Elder with deathsquitos)
I like the variety. Gives options if you're looking for a particular thing from a seed.
You should not think of it from the perspective of somebody that has rushed the bosses several times but rather a person just getting started. One person can have it easy, finding everything they need easily, while the next person loses their entire equipment while sailing to the first boss (yes - even that is possible - the start-island not having the first boss on it).
Being tedious and totally random is not the same as having variety.
