If you plant near Dark forest. You can make Greyeye dwarf farm with a one of the spawners. gets you ton of stone, Wood and resin. You just need to dig a pit under the spawner push in a couple wolves. replenish the wolves every now an then.
I saw that graydwarfs video farm on yt and not , make that crap take a really long ( most for moving wolves and make that breeding tower worth ) , take 5 times less time just do it in normal way cuttin wood and diggin stone , its not like that surtling farm , graydwarf farm its too more complicated when u can get all that crap just trippin in the black forest at night
Scout around and find a decent place.
My first one was a thin strip of plains between two mountains.. I walled off the area totally between the mountains.

The second one I had was a small bit sticking out from black forest and had swamp on the other three sides.. it even had a couple of patches of cloudberries and was very productive.
Dug a small ditch outside the walls just to keep the lox from attempting to get to the stone walls. The swamp even had some crypts to get iron from so it started early as a fully functional outpost even before we had anything to plant there. By the time we beat Modor we had two plus stacks of dark metal and tons of lox meat from the spawns out in front of the farm there.

Right on the edge of a Meadow biome and the Plains biome, I feel is the best 'farming' spot. In my Plains base/farm, a tiny part of it is in Meadows and the vast majority of it is Plains. I run back and forth between the 2...seems to trigger encounters.

I like to be near a forest. The dwarves tend to be a good distraction for skeeters.
My plains s base is next to a swamp, for the same reason. Draugrs can kill skeeters, blobs keep fulings distracted nicely, and wraiths actually put up a decent fight.

The base is a shack on a giant Boulder, with only the basics and a portal to the main base. My crops are on the ground with just a stakewall fence around it.

Search for a small island, you can build on it and drop a few extra workbenches and nothing will spawn on it. 100% safe, no spawns or raids possible.
I said no islands , i dont like super safe bases , maybe in the shore between 2 biomes ( plains + ? )
Had one in a solo world I was in that I set up in a small bit of black forest between a swamp and plains. Mined some iron out of the swamp to make the stone cutter for making walls. Black forest had plenty of copper and tin to make the forge for repairs etc.

Along the coast. Easiest to defend and an entire side you can't be attacked by. Put up a decent wall the block line of sight of you and any equipment and you won't get harassed unless you make tons of noise at night or get a raid. (mobs don't aggro upon seeing structures but will on most equipment). Put torches inside the wall perimeter but not visible from the outside so they give you a 20m no spawn perimeter.

So... You DON'T want advice. If you're just picking based on aesthetics, just do you bud.
I explore by fully stocked longboat, wood, core wood, fine wood, surtling cores and refined metals, when looking for a new base. For the Plains I set up a small base nearby in the Black Forest first. A core wood dock followed by a wood shelter with a portal to my main base for rest bonus and a Ward. Only went a short distance into the Plains to set up the base there. Grind it out and make it with large complex behind stone walls and a combination of moats and raised soil. A stone outpost with access to the roof and Iron Gates to protect your portal once you relocate it from the Black Forest make things easier later. I have large area for crops rarely see Deathsquitoes while planting crops. My last harvest of Barley after replanting was over 400. I'll try to post a screenshot tomorrow.

Hmmm... let's see... Island for certain. Observe the mosquito spawn locations... they aren't necessarily woodlands, but they are harder to see in woodlands. The island need not be very big, but should have enough shallows to be teraformed into something useful. Make sure that most of it meets deep water, and you won't have a problem with too many events (drakes, skellies, and swamp stuff can still happen, of course, but it's much harder if you elevate the island surface some distance.

I dropped a base on a small island just offshore, and not on a mosquito path, and then did the China thing and built it up. Works perfectly.

I was asking for not being fully wrecked , but not stay in a site like meadows being an actual end game place , 50/50 because i know there some plains that ull be harrased 90% of the time until u get stone walled
And i know too that there in the biome limits fulings gets the attention of other biome mobs

And that was what happened , i found with my friend a very weird plain between biomes , with literally the form of a snake with the head ending in a great lake ( we thought it was sea , a shame ) , so we starting an intermediate base in the snake "head" because is very far away from main bases , a almost perfect hectare with a swamp in the left , a black forest in the right and a mountain skirt above but not so close to spawn dragons or wolves , still fulings in that part , and well , the place is pretty active without benchs everywhere until finish the fort , in the night those green monkees spawn in the corners in large groups ( 4 to 7 ) sometimes with some 1 o 2 stared , wrecking my neighbours haha , mosquitos too , getting the drop is like farming sometimes

Yeah any border areas area good for going out and collecting the loot dropped by warring mobs and critters like deer who wander into the Plains. Sometimes Grays will even get lucky and kill a Fuling or two.
I use two stone walls with an open space in the middle. I fill this open space with 16 to 24 wolves, and just ignore the wolfies after placed. Of course, for best results use 2-star wolfies.

No matter the purpose ... base or farm in the plains ... this approach works well.
Any event is easily dealt with, and anything the plains can muster is swept aside with even greater ease.
Best of all, with this method of base defense there is no need for a moat.

No moat - just 16 to 24 tamed wolves. :steamfacepalm:
