You can have many beds, i.e. many spawn points. But only have 1 active at a time.
A bed will be flagged as 'too exposed' if you haven't built it inside a house, and you won't be able to sleep at the bed (which progresses the night to day, and replenishs your health) unless there is a fire nearby.
Is it possible you haven't even built any shelter or house yet? You should start by building your first small house and put a bed in it that you can use as spawnpoint.
If you are talking about spawn points while you are out exploring far away from your base, then yes it's probably best to build small shelters everywhere to avoid having to run far away in case you die.
I built many small 3x4 wooden shack shelters everywhere so wherever I go or wherever I am, that there is always a shelter nearby that I can go to to sleep the night away or set my spawn point to.
When you travel long distances, it's a good idea to have a bed or teleporter set up so you can return quickly.
When you die in minecraft where do you spawn? When you die in ark where do you spawn? When you die in Rust, where do you spawn? This is a staple of all recognised survival/crafting games...
What the ♥♥♥♥ is the alternative, genius? Not being able to die?
Yeah I know xD. I was using the bed as the subject of 'it' so I was trying to avoid confusion :).
