I suspect that this will now be required with the new networking system, as most other dedicated servers already do. My router supports this and I have no issues connecting to a local dedicated server.
Also, the disconnecting every few minutes thing is likely due to non-updated clients. It looks like they launched the dedicated server software a bit before the client software this time.
Go to the server command screen
Press CTRL + C
Server will unload
Run your start server batch file again
If you close the server by clicking the X of the command screen, the server is not fully unloading. Doing the CTRL + C does a graceful shutdown.
Worked that out ... but still getting kicked from the server after being logged in for about a minute. Obviously the game is unplayable in this state :(
But
I solved it.
If you are using a router,
you can access it when using an internal ip
(192.168.xxx.xxx:2456)
Other players could connect through Public IP or serverlist but host has to connect through Internal IP.
But after about 60-90 seconds we are disconnected.
Update: We could log in without issue using the IP address rather than the server name.
I solved it this way too.
So it looks like a loopback would be needed to join via the public IP address. after connecting via local IP, I was also able to get into the game. I will have my friend test accessing the server from a non LAN address, will update when I find out.
The game is unplayable, thanks to an update that wasn't tested properly.
