Valheim
Leather scraps way to grindy
I am getting board with the early game because the grinding for leather scraps to craft/upgrade gear is to much. It is dull and not fun to go around whacking boars over and over and over again for so much of the early game. We need a few more low level challenges to get a character started and less mindless grind just to assemble a basic set of gear. Dear hide seems OK, as is wood and stone, but either crafting should be adjusted to require less leather scraps or boars should drop more. I like this game, but it is overboard on the grinding for some resources and combining with a corpse run mechanic really takes away from the most fun part which is exploring the world.

You need leather scraps: None in sight
You farm wood: Get distracted every 5 seconds by them
Yup. It's why after I got out of the Leather Age, I still killed them whenever I saw them.
"What if I need scraps down the line"
Got way too many scraps since i hit the iron age, muddy scraps drop so many leather scraps
one of my next steps, pig taming... I have alot of scraps, just finished my first 50 stack, but getting the hogs in the camp may be fun.... Hopefully it's as simple as tossing the shrooms out, can't wait ti find out. I finally got bees...
Am I able to tame, or collect sausages w/o any further tech?
I am trying to avoid moving up the tech tree, and/or boss engagement until it means something to me. All I want to be able to do is build freely, gather my mats. And spend a LONG time designing and constructing a mammoth castle/keep. I cannot wait. I have half a mind when I do hit a wall in the grind, to go ahead pop-up to the top. See what is waiting for me. I am trying to leave some of the content as a surprise. I really enjoy the game, super chill kicked back vibes. Then I go break stuff. :)

It takes ages to get boar breeding going. OP is right. It's tedious and boring, as well as unoriginal. Might as well be asked to collect 50 rat tails to get to level two.

Your doing it wrong then. Make sure you put a wall around the pen to keep out monsters so they dont spook or attack boars.

Make sure you have multiple food sources, boars eat reg mushrooms, rasp and blue berries carrots and turnips.

Also make sure there is no fire around, fire spooks them. We have a small boar pen and we keep three adults, we get about 6 - 8 boars every day or so.

I throw my leather scraps into the sea as they are clogging up inventory and chests at this point.
rasp and blue berries , nice to know ty

Yup, that seems to be the biggest mistake that people are making. Fire and enemies around their boars. They won't tame when they're scared. I tamed my boars in around 30 minutes because they were far from fire and protected from enemies. It was dummy easy.

I don't think a lot of gamers know what grind means.
I used to MUD where it could take a full year of repetitive, nightly labor to hit max level. Killing THOUSANDS of the same thing. Grinding sucks. Just because grinding boars in Valheim is easier than grinding 50th level in Sojourn, doesnt make it a good thing.

Im all for long progression arcs and working for a reward, but its gotta be fun. There is nothing fun and adventurous about killing twenty pigs in this game. In fact, what they should do is drop animal frequency DRASTICALLY, and make you actually HUNT for that leather. Reduce the amount needed as well, bug now even if it took ten times longer to collect, it would be exciting.

As is, its just spam looting pigs and deer until you get upgraded, nothing thrilling, nothing special, nothing risky or dangerous. Nothing survival.

in addition to this youre not allowed to venture too far away from the boars, which will result in the boars not progressing i nthe taming bar, while they just keep eating your food whenever u return from a trip

That takes AGES. I can kill my way into the bronze age before you get that set up and have your first piglets.

No, it really doesn't. Not if you have things set up properly and they have a constant food source. I had my first boar piglet by day 10. It's stupid easy to tame and breed boars.

Build a pen. Lure some boars inside. Tame them. Breed them. Have a nonstop supply of leather scraps and meat.
You're welcome.

He will thank you in 33 years when the boars are tame

OP: just skip and ignore whatever you need leather scraps for until they are easy to come by, the game will be much more enjoyable, trust me

I had a full chest of leather scraps by day 25. It's not hard. Nor is it that time consuming. You people are somehow having issues with a game mechanic that most people seem to agree is easy as ♥♥♥♥ to do.
I wish you could craft deer hide into scraps, I always have a ton of deer hide and barely any scraps when I start a new character
Its even stupider easier to kill them. Not going to argue, you are talking about collecting ALL the resources, building the pen, catching and placing pigs, feeding and taming them, waiting for piglets. Or running around in less than half that time killing them.

Took me less than 20 minutes to build a pen and get 2 boars in with food. Then i went off exploring came back and had 2 tamed boars with 2 piggies, I already had stacks of foraged food so i just tossed some in.

Your really complaining about a non issue, this is super ez if you just put a minimal amount of effort into it.
