Please Fix wolf breeding - bugged 2 star 'night wolves'
Some of you may be aware of this difficulty, but 2 star wolves only spawn at night and sadly only eat and tame at night also. I get making them spawn at night, but only eating and taming at night makes it take 3 times as long.

Beyond that the bigger problem is during daylight if you are not right there next to them, they can literally just vanish, even trapped.

Beyond that the other big problem is, even when you tame that 1 or 2 star "night wolf".....even once tamed it can still vanish or run away and vanish. So we have to wait for it to make puppies that are of equal quality and NOT completely bugged and broken to actually stick around and not vanish.

This is crazy frustrating. Takes hours and hours..to capture, wait for it to be tamed only on night cycles, all while sitting there babysitting so it doesn't vanish, watch them bug out and disappear, eventually hoping to get good pups.

PLEASE FIX THIS

This happened with my 1 star wolf, just finding that wolf took forever. Taming took longer, I was attempting to bring it back to base since it had a better chance at surviving but as i was running back to base and day had hit while it was directly behind me the wolf just poofed out of existence. All the work it took and time all went to waste. Q_Q

Tamed me a 2 star wolf one time (took a ethernity)
since then when i start a new game i just go in mountains, kill 2 wolfes and pretend i tamed one

Then i spawn a unbuggy one in my base
Haha exactly, but in multiplayer co-op without cheat spawning....what a nightmare.

The reason for them 'bugging' and or vanishing, is due to the AI. Any creature or mob will always try and path back to its spawn point once it loses interest of you. This includes animals you tame. Even after tame you may notice the boar/wolf will still hug whatever wall would be along its path back to spawn. When you leave the area, things unload/go into stasis. When you return, and as things load in this allows the tames to bug and glitch though.

Babies born get their spawn point set to where they are born, so they don't have this issue.

If you go back to the areas you had first found and loured your animals from, you're going to find your tames. I thought I lost my wolf pack after I loured, trapped and tamed the lot, with a two star included. They all followed me to base and than POOF, vanished... I later went back to where I found them and almost killed them thinking they were new wilds that spawned. Until after killing a few I noticed the tame and ability to pet them...

..........yeah.

You haven't played ark survival evolved have you? where it takes 3 real world days to tame a dino? :steammocking:

1 wolf (2 star) will be enough to get 2 star kid, the partner one can be 0 star
kid always gets stars of the "mother" (no male/female there so I mean the one giving birth)

night-only creatures despawn during day when they are 40m away from player
during day they also try to escape 40m away from player to despawn

so not only you need to be close, but you also have to lock them so they don't escape :/
It's pain in the butt

That post is mostly right but for the de-spawn vanishing thing. That's due to the AI issue I mentioned. If I can re-encounter my wolf pack I tamed after they 'vanished' several game days later then yeah. Plus I seen a boar glitch though my wall after fresh tame and watched it beeline back to where it spawned. To this day, almost 200 day's sense it escaped... its still free roaming back where it had spawned. I give it a pet every time I walk past.

I can't find it in the code ;D Maybe it's under some weird name (just like "night-only" is called "despawnatday")
I have found that telling wolves to "stay" sets their "patrol route" to the point where they stand currently
So they circle in this place (maybe it will override the whole return to spawn thingie? I'm assuming that this whole "return to spawn" is actually just patrol route of wolf :D in case of other pets... restart of game should change their patrol route since it's not saved anywhere)

if this "return to spawn" is a thing then I guess it would happen only when there is no day for night wolves
during the day their AI takes escaping and despawning as priority, they just try to do whatever they can just to despawn

Covered it in my guide.

Long story short. you cant move away for ~3 in game nights. They need to not be aggro'd as much as possible. Then you have to breed it and the offspring has to be a 2 star wolf (which can breed with a non star wolf).

Which means you had to have a breeding pen ready. To make things worse it will try to run away to despawn during the day.

-Honestly I suspect they put in 2 star wolves with the intent that people would not be able to tame them.

I don't think they want you taming 2 star wolves but I could be wrong. It makes the game silly and easy. You can transport wolves to other continents via Harpoon dragging. Once there you can spread them and make them crush all wildlife except flying enemies.

fixing the despawning of night wolves is whole 1 line of code~~
if they don't fix it anytime soon... then I guess it's intentional to despawn them :D

Quick question ... Player's say 2-Star only spawn at night, then has anyone gone to the Northern Pole region in daytime to see if they spawn during the day?

To be fairly fair ... When 5-Star Wolves appear, then I'd agree that 2-Star needs work, otherwise it's a downward spiral for taming.

To get the best, should we nerf the best so anyone can get one?

why do you think that 5 star enemies will be in the game?

unless you mean command spawned ones :D

I didn't try it~~
But north pole is just no different than any mountain?

I had thoughts that those mountains offer a higher tier spawn, I have no evidence because i haven't traveled that far north ... :(

It crossed my mind for the future. I think the time you've trained a 2-Star could have been better spent if we could train them to level up (time or combat or whatever).

Another question .... Do they despawn while training simply because it's night or is there a certain amount of acclamation before it coverts to the players "religion" (so to speak). I know you've mention another thread that asks, I followed your grinding report (+ 1 for you work).

Wolves spawned at night that are 1 or 2 star will poof if you go too far away (somewhere between 12-20 tiles).
