Farm by exploiting a new World
Dungeons do not respawn and neither do surface metals. If you are unlucky with your world seed you might have to sail or run all over the place to get what you need. Rather than hope you get lucky you can just load up a new world with what you want if you have a seed for it. The alternative is to sail around for hours and find the Biome you were looking for - maybe only to discover it has no crypts in the swamp or no silver on the mountain.

Position yourself in your "main world" next to storage as you will likely come back encumbered. Then make a new world that has whatever you need.

Note: changing worlds will remove all buffs/debuffs such as rested/poison.

When you type in the seed instead of the random one it gives you for a new world be sure to copy/paste the seed and note the case sensitivity as it will make a difference.

As for the "why" : some worlds don't have copper/tin touching iron touching silver which makes making a base extremely difficult. Other wolds have plentiful metals touching without via land bridges.

You paid for the game so play for the way that makes it fun for you.
Copper/Tin/Fine Wood
Copper is annoying because you need a 2:1 ratio to make bronze. Not much is really made with raw copper unless you are a fan of sneaking around with a knife.

Create a new world with exactly this seed:

frvwjPk3k3

Run north and slightly west and there will be a large copper node. Return to your world put copper in the box - repeat as needed. You can get Tin nearby from the water edges as well but normally you get plenty of Tin as you only need half as much to make Bronze.

Fine Wood becomes problematic if you stay in a world because it seems very hard to locate seeds for trees bearing fine wood. Just come to this world and chop all the fine wood you need.
Queen Bees / Honey
Seed:

ht9ApYLnfs

Run South East keeping the tree line on your left. There will always be a bee hive here (the hive may be on the opposite side). Shoot it with a bow and collect/repeat as needed. You can get some core wood here from some of the beams as well to unlock some recipes sooner (make a workbench and middle mouse click or chop them down if necesary).

Each bee will allow you to make a honey farm which can hold up to 4 days worth of honey. You will need quite a few to have enough potions.

-Be aware it takes quite a long time in game to ferment potions.
Surtling Cores
This is a good map for Core farming with a very short run. Clear the dungeon and get the cores. Run straight north from Spawn.

Seed:
5nZamSprAk

If you are running the "iron world" from the next section I usually run past about 3 dungeons on the way to get Iron. If you run this course you can get a few cores and then later when you want to make the Iron run you're probably already half way there. I don't think the dungeon entrances move but the layouts of the dungeon interior do shift.

*note* after the Feb patch the dungeon in this picture might be slightly to the east and is sometimes a troll cave.
Iron
Iron is collected in the swamp and requires the Swamp Key from the second boss to open the gates to the dungeons.

Seed : klW6PHmPNj

Note: the l is a lower case "L" not a 1.

From Spawn run north west. Hug the coast or the forest line to avoid running through the swamp as much as possible. You can make all the iron you will need for a very long time with 1-2 runs depending on how many people you are outfitting. You will likely want tier 2 troll armor, poison resistance potions and healing potions. If you are alone you can exit to remove a poison debuff - if you really want to cheese the only hard enemies (slimes). Make sure you have a shield.

Skip to 5:06 to see the map. Note the upside down "U" right before the terrain changes from Meadow to Swamp. Follow the left side straight north to find the first dungeon.

Silver
After you defeat Bonemass you will get a wishbone. Go to a mountain zone and you will see glowing streaks around your character when you are close to silver (or treasure). As you get closer to where you need to dig the chime sound will get faster and faster if you are closer (and slower as you move away).

Seed:
klW6PHmPNj

This is the same world for Iron - but there is also a mountain very close to spawn. Run north west from spawn and activate your frost mead when you start taking damage.

You will be constantly attacked by stone golems (unlike trolls you can pretty much only kill them by parrying then attacking), wolves and drakes that shoot ice at you.

Dig thoroughly and you should eventually get around 50 silver. Return as needed to get more silver.

As a general rule it is dangerous to go below 50% stamina in the mountains. Wolves are extremely fast unlike every other enemy you have seen so far. The one and two star wolves can sometimes kill you in one or two hits (depending on how fresh your food buffs are).

Wearing the Wishbone in the swamp will help you detect a source of Iron. In Meadows it will dectect the buried treasure in "stone ship formations" more readily.
Obsidian
On top of mountains you can find Obsidian. It's needed to get the tier 5 upgrade for the workbench. If you made a chain of fires you might be able to sneak in and get enough to get the upgrade. Each node seems to be destroyed in about one hit.

Seed:

ht9ApYLnfs

Run straight south west about 2-3 minutes to find a mountain (with no rivers in the way).

Note: this is once again the same seed as the honey world. My version of this world had no silver on the mountain but it did have an egg. It did however have about 4 obsidian deposits that we could find. You only need 4 to upgrade the workbench along with some Iron/Fine Wood.

Here are three screenshots of what it looks like; basically it's a snow covered rock so you need to be extremely thorough to find it. Put your mouse cursor over each rock to "scan" them until you see text above the rock.

I didn't realize these were a new material at first

After you get about 20-50 you likely wont need much more - unless you like making fancy arrows.

Black Metal/Flax/Barley
Unlike other metals which are mined Black Metal is a drop. You get it from the "goblin" looking enemies in plains. The difficulty is in getting enough silver to make weapons/armor where killing them becomes easy. But once you get to that point Black Metal is infinite. That makes little sense when you consider the previous tier of materials.

Flax is gathered from goblin villages. Take their flax and plant it in your own fields. We made an island connected by a land bridge from a nearby Meadow biome. Place workbenches to overlap the positions that cover the field so no goblins spawn. Otherwise they will break your crops before they grow up (returning nothing). The plants will only grow in plains by the way.

When you grow plants on an island like this you will be mostly safe. The ranged goblins can still attack you from the water. A one star spear goblin can kill you in 2-3 hits. There is still the air threat as well so make sure you eat while you farm in plains.

*Note: this is the material you will need to make the next tier of armor*. You will only need maybe 100 per person for weapons/armor so don't go too crazy growing it.

Barley you will need to get from a chest. Apparently we got lucky in that we got Barley from our first goblin village.Barley will give you amazing food with either cooked fish or Lox meat+ cloudberries.

Once you start growing Barley it's time to go and visit the trader to get a fishing rod+bait.

Cooked fish+barley makes a fish wrap this is strong food but fish can be somewhat annoying to catch. Barley+cloudberried+cooked lox meat makes a meat pie which is tied for the sea serpent dish for 80 health/stamina.
Taming : Wolves, Boar, etc.
Animal taming is pretty easy : make a pen and feed them the food they like. Tame 2 adults and if there is enough space in the pen then they will breed. The animals have to physically touch when fed in order to reproduce (you can push against them to force them into contact). If you have a large pen they will be able to breed to a higher number but they will "hit" each other for breeding less often. You can circumvent this with wolves by getting them to follow you so they don't spread out all over the place.

The offspring of tame animals will be the same as one of the parents instead of a mix. Once you get two max tier parents kill off all weaker specimens.

  • You can train a 2 star wolf but most likely it spawned at night and will only eat at night (this is a bug that will likely get fixed). Among other things this means that if you move more than about 12 tiles it will vanish instantly (even if successfully tamed). You have to breed it with a "normal one" and then wen the offspring grows up it will be "fixed". If the offspring has no stars then kill the young wolf when it finishes growing up and try again.

  • Two star wolves only eat at night which means they only gain taming progress by eating at night (the progress can finish ticking during day). They will also try to run away and will not follow. Mate them with another wolf until the resulting cub is a 2 star offspring. The 2 star parent will vanish but the offspring will remain and work normally (eat/breed/follow as expected). The newborn cub will look like a regular wolf but will change as it matures.

  • You will want to dig a pit like this with a steep ramp you can jump up but the wolf cant (does not need to be this deep). You can push the wolf into a pit by blocking and moving into it. To get the wolf to safely chase you either walk backwards blocking or extremely carefully run. If you have the run buff you might be able to make it to your pre built pit. Otherwise use the Bonemass power so his hits only deal about 10 damage each. If using the run method you need to walk and then run right before the wolf bites which is extremely dangerous and only works if there is one wolf. Even with a silver armor set you will be taking about 50 damage per bite.

  • Given the choice find some 2 or 1 star boars to breed. They give you a ton of meat/leather scraps. The two star boars usually drop about 5-6 items and no star boars usually drop 1-2 items. So when you slaughter 6 pigs for 6 vegetables you notice a huge difference.

How do you transport pets? Use the Harpoon!

Bonus Tips
  • If you want a super easy world you can build or kill bosses in what has been called the "speedrunner" seed. This world has the trader very close to the spawn point- directly south west. When you get close a money bag will appear on the map. You can bring back the heads of any bosses you kill back to your "main world".

    Seed:
    HHcLC5acQt

  • Do not delete all the giant rocks around your base as they can be enclosed and sheltered to make a super fast "level up" dojo. You can level up everything except your pick here. If you want to level up the pick you can stack wood floors somewhere else and break them away from the rock.

  • You can level up blocking if you enable PvP (your friend can leave it off). You can level up defense while a friend levels up offense this way. Let me emphasize that high levels of block are incredibly valuable for multiplying the effectiveness of how much damage you can defend against.

One of my friends was griping how long it took him to get level 30 skills by hitting the rock (in 20 minutes he got 25 in multiple combat skills). He doesn't seem to realize it took 3-4 days to get there when we first started playing. In other words : immortal target skill up method is extremly strong and is probably OP (likely to get nerfed).

I got more blocking experience with his help in about 20 minutes than I have in the previous 30 hours of play.

You can even make a level up station for woodcutting/pickaxe if you are willing to carefully steer some Birch logs into your level up area. If you use regular logs you will only be able to level up mining.

  • You will want to build troll armor as soon as possible and likely use that until you can make Iron. We felt bronze armor was not worth it and instead upgraded bronze tools/weapons.

  • Start fermenting and gathering the mats for that process as soon as possible. Potions are incredibly helpful.

  • Killing bosses overall is probably easier with 2 people as each person greatly increases the health of the Boss. But having a second person means one can tank while the other deals damage. Lots of lower level people "helping" can make things difficult.

  • It's really important to learn to block very early on. The problem is that in the early game you don't need to bother blocking because all the enemies are slow, clumsy and do little damage. Block levels work as a multiplier to increase the effectiveness of your shield.

  • You can save space in your base by putting station upgrades behind walls or on higher floor levels.

The dotted gold lines tell you if they will connect to the forge/workbench.

  • It is best to be safe and be defensive in this game because dying really impacts your skills. Stamina regeneration is really slow compared to say dark souls so you have to play differently.

Always make a map waypoint when you die if you lost your "good gear". This way if you have a very long corpse run you won't lost that body in case you die again.

  • Bonemass If you use fully upgraded iron gear this boss is quite easy. Do not bother with arrows. Drink the poison resist potion and have a few minor/medium heal potions. Bring carrot soup, sausages and Onion Stew. When he makes the poison cloud step away. You can almost ignore the slime adds but watch out for archers. Block then beat him down. When he rears up to vomit you can get some hits in but be careful as the poison seems to ramp up if you stay in the cloud too long.

  • Build your base very close to a nice beach. This will give you great access for shipping later which is incredibly important. Early on you can get more feathers than you know what to do with. You will be super happy when you want to make fancy arrows. Suggestion: don't make iron or flint arrows and just use wood (maybe some fire if you *need* them for elder) until after Bonemass.

Birds will land all over the place during bad weather and will frequently be something you can shoot for bow xp early on. You don't need feathers at first but late game it's really nice to have infinite stacks without trying. There were 5 birds in that shot before I killed a few. I got 60 feathers in about 2 minutes.

  • When harvesting crops you can just hold "E" to gather them rather than chain spamming. You could also use the atgeir for barley harvesting but you might not have extra bronze/iron.

  • Here's an amazing 1 minute video on how to flatten/raise ground very effectively.

Each person within something like 100-200m. I'm not exactly sure but pretty much if they are "in the area" they make any enemy stronger.

"each person greatly increases the health of the Boss" Q: Each person (somewhere off) in the world, or each person aggro/battling the boss?
Sir Doggy Jvla Feb 28, 2021 @ 9:12am
No I actually got it, just the map from the video and the map in-game didn't seem to fit, but I've found the swamp and the dungeons, there's also multiple fire geyser around which is pretty handly for me as I need the cores
kn0xx Feb 28, 2021 @ 1:40am
@Sir Doggy Jvla I have over 200 iron from that same seed

@Timpa being able to switch worlds is literally a game mechanic.
glythe  [author] Feb 27, 2021 @ 7:13am
@Timpa some people will tell you using a guide at all is cheating. It's one thing to go and mine materials and something else to use the console . For perspective there are some worlds that have 500+ Iron connected to the first island by a land bridge and others where the 3 closest swamps are barren with 1-2 crypts. How much fun would it be to try and play with 7-8 people all splitting about 80 iron?
Gargales Feb 27, 2021 @ 6:53am
@timpa It's because everyone can play this game the way they want.

Why not just spawn in items if you gonna circumvent game mechanics like this

I made this guide as a reference to myself as well as others. A single mistake with one letter or case sensitivity will make a difference.
