This X100
This right here is why I modded this gam (and just about every survival game I’ve played). I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate , HATE (you get the idea...) the inventory management chore/grind that’s in most survival games. I will mod every time there’s an option to increase stack size, have some sort of auto item sorting/filtering/management, and overall reduction of the number of storage containers needed for the storage of inventory whenever available. I want to spend my precious few hours a week that I can game on the fun parts of the game like building and combat; not sorting inventory and making 1,000 trips back to base a play session because my weight/inventory slots filled up in 10 minutes again. If you like that style of play, then that’s fine you have fun with vanilla. Me, I hate it so I’m not going to play that way when I don’t have to.
And Anecdotally, were it not for the existence of these mods I can tell you flat out I wouldn’t have bought this game. I watched several videos on YouTube before buying and was really turned off by the awful 1990s graphics (if you love them then great but I hate them) and obnoxious (imho) inventory system. However, I saw many aspects of the game that are quite compelling and mechanics that I knew I’d love (like the skill and gear progression) so I checked to see if modding was an option. I hope someone is able to put out some sort of HD graphics mod eventually to make it look like it was at least made after president Clinton was in office, but at least the inventory nonsense could be modded away.
The better UI, crafting from containers, and Valheim plus (only modified stack size, item weight, container slots, and unrestricted item teleporting), and instant loot drop mods have enabled me to play and enjoy the fun aspects of the game and skip the inventory grind.
To each, their own.
If you raise the stacksizes with Valheim+ and switch back to vanilla the amount of items is simply cut at the vanilla maximum. So you need to reduce your stacks before switching back.
Same waring for the planting mod.
During i GUESS you can remove Berrybushes i GUESS you cant get rid of panted Mushroom spawners. Still testing
Who cares though, play how you want. Id like some QOL mods, like easier building snapping, bigger kilns/smelters, larger chests but I haven't tried any yet
So I won't use any mods in this game whatsoever...
But I DO wish torches lasted forever, planting was less of a chore, and we had a paper doll to equip gear.
Craft from Containers
Armor Paperdoll
These three should be part of the vanilla game tbh
Modding it can make it better. Eventually we will see overhaul mods that add new gear, enemies etc, maybe even new added biomes by modders.
7 Days to die does this, the devs have added a ton of things to the vanilla game that was orignally put in via a mod. Like autostack to chests if you have a stack started already, that was a mod only thing, and the devs put it in the vanilla game later on.
I am only thinking of using 3 mods myself: Quick stack (stacks stuff in chests/nearby chests if it has a stack of it already), the one where it'll pull from nearby containers for crafting etc, just so I don't have to go grab the mats myself and walk back, and one that lets me delete items, that I am going to set so it gives no material back, you can set it to give crafting mats back, partial mats, or none, I am setting it to none.
I have a bad habit of forgetting what I stored where, so this is just to help with that, doesn't really offer me any advantages, as I generally have the chests by the forge/workbench etc anyway, and I have a chest by my smelters/coal kilns for raw ore/wood/coal. Just saves me the time of having to hunt to find where in my bunch of chests where something is.
I agree with you here, least for my first playthru, first playthru I won't use anything thats game changing, just some qol stuff, like I mentioned I was going to use a post ago. I don't have any problems with the stamina system myself. Though I would like the skills to reduce stamina costs as they level for tools/weapons along with the damage.
Naw, that'd classify as a UI/quality of life mod in my eyes, as it just rearranges the UI a bit. Same with the mods I plan to use, they are just QoL things, I still have to gather the stuff myself, cart it back, etc.
