Return of the Leviathan
Does anyone know if the Leviathan returns after it went under? The Leviathan in question spawned in sight of the coast and got accidentally mined by one of our players, while building a base there. We like to see our Leviathan back.... Does anyone know is this happens, and if so, after how long?

What leviathan? You mean, Jörmungandr? I don't think he comes back in the same place, seems to be a random spawn thing.

There is no Jormungandr. There's serpents and leviathans which you mine for chitin.

And as for the OP I don't believe they respawn in the same spot, once it goes down you'll have to sail and find another one

you have to find a 2nd one out in the ocean somewhere
I found one and didn't finish mining before it rumbled in annoyance and sunk. I think it keeps coming back in the same spot and I haven't finished mining it yet. Maybe they do that until fully mined?

After how long did this Leviathan come back if I may ask? We are 2 irl days further and it still not back :(

leviathans don't return
once they are deep enough... they just despawn totally

there is small chance that new leviathan spawns in the same spot tho
but I wouldn't bet on this ;d

I just assumed that the islands were upper coils of Jörmungandr breaking the surface. Nothing else really made any sense to me.

I mean I might we'll be wrong I don't know for sure it's the same one, it just spawned in pretty much the same place. Almost every time I sail that way it's there sitting waiting patiently for me to jump on, I just haven't the need to go back yet :/

I got a seed that has one literally swimming distance from land. Its shown up in the same spot twice. I can get 35-45 off of it no boat needed

They do for me, but it takes days. I found this out by always marking leviathan spots and when returning weeks later (ingame time) they had spawned on the exact spot of the marker.

It might have been coincidence but one time I was out looking for leviathans and I found one right after the other in relatives close proximity. But that was from the air going fast so.. yeah relatively close. The point is that, while random, it might not have gone to far from it's initial spawn point. I'd check the waters nearby if nothing else. That said I dunno if I'd count on them sticking around. What if they despawn on a server reload? I know most mobs you capture at night don't stick around. So, it's hard to say if Leviathans truly stick around until you go mining them.

Turtles are always in the same spot for me I mark them on the map
