why need a mount ??? u have boat , u know u cant cross ocean with horse right !

Vikings had boats similar to longships (flatter) where they transported horses. Just saying.

Mounts definitely for your cart.

You don't ride your mount, it helps you pull the cart with no speed penalties. At 1,000lbs the cart becomes slow and difficult to travel with. A mount can push the weight limit to 5,000lbs.

No flying mounts. This will kill the game and make it too easy,

Riding mounts? This could be problematic and probably a bad idea. It would change the character of the game too much. Travelling would become inconsequential because of the speed and ignoring of content. You can just zip by mobs and ignore the environment around you.

Compromise?

Perhaps mounts restricted to biomes. Once you defeat the biome boss you are gifted a magical mount you can summon only when inside that biome. Once you conquered a biome it's challenge is gone so why not reward player with the convenience of fast travel by mount?

There could still be a problem

This may make harvesting resources too fast and easy by essentially trading the capacity of your cart for the speed of your mount. IMO riding mounts will throw the balance of the game off and ultimately not worth the headache.

We already have them though, your friend pulling a cart and you riding in it..

i mean, it worked for me all i needed was a whip but sadly all i have is this stupid harpoon that pulls them backwards instead of prompting them to run forwards.

This is a bigger ball of wax than most people seem to think. How would you acquire the animal? What are its needs? How do you care for it? What can it do? What are its limitations? How do you transport it across the sea? What do you do after trolls/blobs/drakes/deathsquitos kill it?

You want a horse, but I think you're inadvertently asking for a pink elephant.

Wouldn't mounts just be for immersion and fun really given how they're a step down in "speed" from portals?
