I generally run out of weight than slots, but then again I am playing very slow and only at bronze, gearing for the Elder fight and the Swamps.
Mods as said above can 'fix' both issues if its that bad for you.
I will admit I would prefer a character screen that wears the armour and equipment, rather than a inventory slot tho.
The inventory slot limit completely limits our ability to EXPLORE and collect resources at the same time...it's like I can only do one or the other. Go explore, or go out for collection runs...C´mon devs WTF is this!??
Yes, i know there is a mod, but i want to play this vanilla and this is something that shouldn't need to be modded. My bet is they reduced the inventory when they decided on putting the crappy-ass cart in game. I say, axe the cart and create the paper-doll for all armor and weaps. Also, make keys and some things passive that don't need to be carried around.
One simple solution? Don't carry junk that you don't need. Another? Don't pick up junk that you don't need. If you've got 140 meat back at your main base you probably don't need two or three more stacks of it. Don't worry about not picking up every little thing.
There's a really good chance you don't need to unless it's something rare or something you use up quickly, and in most cases you can easily get more anyway.
Make small camps and store small amounts of loot at each one, as you run around some areas drop by so you can consolidate items. When you get full stacks of a number of items you need run them back to your closest base.
There are loads of mods, and I don't think you need any of them. Sure, some do improve QoL a bit, but I've not used a single cheat or mod yet because you simply don't need to. The inventory occasionally feels a bit small, but I've never felt the need to expand it, not even with dedicated slots for items you wear, although I have a feeling they'll eventually add something like this it doesn't mean they won't reduce the overall inventory spaces to compensate for that.
8 for tools/weapons (hotbar)
3 for food
thats 15 slots used forprettymuch any loadout..
the rest of your backpack is for loot.
do you need 2 stacks of wood while you are out exploring?
do you need all those dwarf eyes?
how many stones you gonna pack around while you explore?
easiest solution is to NOT pick up EVERYTHING...
but i do agree that the inventory feels rather cramped at times.. and the classic paperdoll equipment page would be a nice addition
I think the inventory more represents your character's 'total' carry capacity no matter how the items included are being carried/worn.
Would a paper-doll be a neat add? Sure, but the same thing could be accomplished by just adding another row of slots in the current inventory. And if they did that would people then want a paper-doll to free up more slots Ad nauseam?
Inventory management has always been a major part of most survival type games. What to take, what to leave, what to wear and what to wield. Decisions a player must make. If you can carry everything all the time then there is a certain loss of challenge.
So any additional inventory slots I hope, if given, will be given sparingly.
I agree that it should be part of the challenge which is why I the paperdoll with 8 slots, or another row of 8 slots would be perfect imho. Any more would be too much.
same thing with the paperdoll character panel.. it has been a long time standard to show what is equipped vs what is carried.
its not that bad really, most of the time i run out of wt way before i run out of space
