The dam Sea Serpent ate my raft

I was just coming back all by my lonesome. Minding my own business not harming anybody.. then this thing showed up. Luckily the wind was right and I got to within swimming distance before he destroyed my hard built raft.

This is why you ditch the raft for anything other than early game sailing to a very close nearby island.

At least you have the right attitude and aren't demanding that sea serpents be nerfed. I never used rafts, but i've had one sink my Karve and eat me a few seconds later. :)

Well I hit him with arrows as I sailed to shore. He broke up my raft and tried to eat me a couple of time. Then he hung around once I was on shore... I suppose if I was leveled enough to get a harpoon I could have got him back for my raft.. but alas... I could only hit a couple of times with arrows and then he swam off leaving me dripping wet.

that plan will fail abandon the raft, get atleast a karve if you want to hunt one of them with a harpoon

I was not hunting the thing. I had moved a bit offshore to miss some marked rocks that damaged my raft on the way down the coast. (see round dots on minimap). The comment on the harpoon was based on the fact that the thing stayed near enough to the shore for several minutes to hit with arrows and had I had a harpoon I could have hit him with that and drug him ashore.

If you have to use a raft, use it only in local biome waters or to cross a river.
Never use a raft to cross an ocean. It's far too risky, That's what ships are for.

You know what would be amazing? A destroyed boat (or raft) leaves floating planks or logs you could then "Use" and start kicking towards shore (like the end of Jaws).

You want Flotsam in the game? Maybe they could make the water the same temperature as the North Sea and you die in minutes.

Look at your mini map... you're in the Ocean, not a river.
You are quite literally out of your depth on a raft there.
You might get lucky and manage to cross an Ocean on a raft, but if your luck runs out, don't come crying about it here. The damn Sea Serpents live in the Ocean, it's their damn home ;)

No, that was before that.. So I had it and decided to go along the coast and build an invasion hut with bed in the Black Forrest.. I made several trips without instance. I mean I cant build a better ship unless I find those stupid little balls in the the dungeons that I never found yet. It is a bit of clearing out 5 trolls and 4 Grayling spawns so far but still nothing.
