uses for gold

After you have 2 key items, gold becomes useless. I would love to be able to melt it down and form it into bars. Then we could stake them as decoration. Maybe allow us to inlay our walls and armor with it...something.

More NPCs are coming eventually.

Some more decoration options are also probably coming with the house stuff patch.

Would like to see a better use for many of the trophies too. Why can't I carpet my floor with boar trophies? Why can't I set troll and dwarf heads on a stake (and have it discourage visitors)?

If anyone feels strongly enough about this there is a mod on Nexus that allows you to buy and sell basically everything in the game at the Trader.

Why is the answer always "There is a mod...". That doesn't really fix things. My guess is that treasure/gold will have more use as more content is added to the game. The Trader himself will probably have more items added and maybe other NPCs will pop up as well. Sure, you can mod the game to death but that's a workaround/cheat, not the actual game content. So I guess it really depends what you want--mods to fix all the game elements you don't like (and thus breaking the game to a certain degree depending on the mod you're using) or the game itself to have more options so you don't have to fiddle around with dubious mods that have to be patched after nearly every update to the game--which becomes more problematic on dedicated servers.
