Axe hitbox cant reach stumps or smaller logs, especially Birch
The devs really needs to increase the hitbox of the axe cause there are countless times that my axe cant even touch the stumps that are too low into the ground. Sure I can try to raise the ground just to chop away those stumps but that is an unnecessary chore. The same goes to the birch logs, axe cant even reach them on levelled ground.

Edit: Some people suggest moving around and find a good angle to hit the stumps, I'm already well aware of this method prior to this post but this only works when the stump in question is on a hill or a sloped area. Even then sometimes any angle doesnt work because of how low the stump is ingrained into the ground. Birch trees and even planted pine trees are the prime example of this.

You can use a pickaxe as well to destroy stumps.

there was a mod i seen the other day that adds the pickaxe animation to the axe... for this exact purpose..
would deff recommend this as a vanilla feature
(think this is the first time ive ever said that ;o))

Can't say for certain but it seems like the collision of your first axe swing is diagonal, just as the animation looks. You might have better luck trying to turn a bit to the right so that your axe meets the trunk/stump near the end of the swing.

Ok, so pickaxe does work but takes a lot more hit. But issue still remains with birch log. The only thing I can think of is pushing the log towards a slope then cut it from there. Still hope the devs would do something about the hitbox.

That is actually a really neat mod. Hope the devs would add something like this cause I don't really wanna mod my game yet.

How many stumps can't you access? 1 on 10? For this one on 10 you can definitely use the pickaxe.

While I totally understand the need of removing stumps when you plan to build where trees where theres no real need or benefit of removing stumps, they provide 2 extra wood and you woulkd have spent the same time cutting down and entire tree in most cases.

The real question then is: is this a real issue? I personally don't think it is.

To you its not but to me it is. Especially when trying to build a village or replanting trees in the same area.

Then using a pickaxe would not be a deal breaker for the 1 on 10 trees you can't reach the stump of with you axe, exactly what I was saying.

If you are OCD on removing every filthy stump out of existence then yea, this is a problem.

I haven't found a stump or log yet I couldn't axe from some direction, never have needed terraforming or pickaxe, at least one direction has always worked for me.

Definitely would like to see the ease of hitting them improved but also wouldn't have any issue if it was never improved as it's a very rare occurrence.

Swing from the lowest ground point at the stump, I've got the woodcutting skill at 100 and i don't have any problem clearing the tree stumps with my axe.
Cougarific Apr 6, 2021 @ 2:24pm
Yeah I've cleared dozens of stumps and never had to do anything special beyond moving to the lowest point around the stump.

the stump is just to low to hit
try to lower yourself by moving around the stump a bit
otherwise pickaxe the terrain next to the stump - cut the stump and then refill or flatten the terrain using the hoe
after that use the cultivator to put the grass back

i often could cut the stumps by moving around a bit when a swing does not connect
