Bug Fixes and Requested Features
Hey everyone,

Welcome back for another release, and hello to everyone who is using this as an entry to the SENRAN KAGURA series!

I wanted to make a central bug thread so you guys know what we're working on and what information we need before we can start working on these fixes. I'll be trying to scour the threads for new bugs, but if something's not up here already please post it in this thread so it'll be easy for me to find.

Useful debug information:
  • DxDiag output
  • Steps to reproduce the issue
  • Screenshot of in-game settings
  • Crash dump files
    Often located here %LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps
    It would be from SKBurstReNewal.exe

Please make sure your NVIDIA graphics cards are being properly selected for this game! In order to check this:
1) Right-click your desktop to open NVIDIA Control Panel
2) Go to "Manage 3D Settings"
3) Click "Program Settings" and select SKBurstReNewal.exe from the first drop-down menu
4) Select "High-performance NVIDIA processor" on the second drop-down menu

Here are some tips to make sure you're getting the best performance out of your PC!
  • Make sure your graphics card is being fully utilized:
    • Stay updated with relevant drivers from your card manufacturer's website
    • Make sure you are using your main graphics card. Different graphics card manufacturers will have guides on how to always use your dedicated card.
  • Add SENRAN KAGURA Burst Re:Newal to the exceptions of any antivirus program:
    • SKBurstReNewal.exe is the executable file you need to add.
  • Turn off any power saving mode your computer might be using:
    • Go to Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Power Options
    • Balanced or High Performance profiles should be chosen. Any Power Saving mode will lower game performance.

Feel free to request new features as well and I'll pass on what I can to the devs.

In Progress Fixes
  • False trigger for "Path of the Shinobi" achievement Fixed in Ver 1.01!
  • Issue with some system voice lines displaying incorrectly Fixed in Ver. 1.01!
  • Low performance on high-spec PCs Fixed in Ver. 1.02!
  • Text advancing too quickly in visual novel portions Fixed in Ver 1.03!
  • Text with macrons appearing incorrectly Fixed in Ver 1.04!
  • Incorrect controller button icons appear in certain menus Fixed in Ver 1.04!

I've sent an email to support@xseedgames.com, so far got no reply, so I'm posting here as a plea for help. WARNING: A LOT OF TEXT AHEAD (primarily intended for devs, user/peer help is also appreciated). The email is as follows (verbatim):

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to request your help in resolving several technical issues I have encountered while playing your latest game (Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal) as well as help in obtaining/recovering pieces of DLC that are advertised as being included in the bundle (see explanations below).

I have purchased the Tailor-Made Limited Edition of Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal on January 17, 2019 (as evidenced by Screenshot 1, see the red outline). The purchase was made on Steam in the Russian region (regional information provided in case the region of purchase has any significance). With the date of release set to January 22, 2019, the purchase makes me eligible for pre-order rewards. As of the date of writing (January 25, 2019, 15:00 Moscow time), Steam displays that my account has access to all the DLC, including the pre-purchase rewards (see Screenshots 2 and 3, including the red outlines). However, this, for me, is connected to a rather puzzling set of issues.

Firstly, what are the "Pre-Purchase Reward" and "Something Beautiful Yukata" pieces of DLC and how can I claim the corresponding content (if needed)? I would be grateful if you could provide corresponding explanations, because extensive search both on Google and on Steam Forums so far produced no results for me.

Secondly, according to the information provided on the official website of the game (http://skburstrenewal.com/paths-of-the-shinobi.html) and the blog of the publisher (https://marvelousgames.com/blogs/news/senran-kagura-burst-re-newal-dlc-release-schedule), customers who prepurchased the game should have received two pieces of story DLC: Yumi (The Ice Queen Arc), which I do have, as confirmed by Screenshots 2, 4, 5 (the story arc is available for choice in the in-game menu) and Miyabi (The Abyssal Arc), which I do not have (see the same screenshots) on January 22 (or the corresponding week, unless I am misunderstanding something). Does this mean that the Miyabi DLC will be released later and will have to be purchased separately (despite having the Tailor-Made Limited Edition)? I would be grateful if you could clarify this issue for me and/or provide instructions on how to get the Miyabi DLC for Steam.

The second overall issue I would like to receive your help with concerns the technical performance of the game. When I first launched the application, during the tutorial mission (Hanzo Rooftop Location), FPS dropped to the 25-30 range regardless of the graphical preset (Low/Med/High), despite all other locations allowing me to play at a steady 60 (with occasional hitching during the Shinobi transformation scenes, occurring during the same time of the scene). The FPS drop issue persists despite me having switched on the maximum performance mode for my GPU according to the recommendations provided by the representative of the developer on the Steam forum (please note that I'm playing on a desktop PC, not on a laptop, PC specs are provided in the attached DxDiag file). Somehow, disabling my antivirus software entirely seems to have resolved that issue (at least partially). However, the FPS does sometimes drop seemingly regardless of the number of enemies on-screen. It should be noted that both the CPU and the GPU are more than capable of rendering everything related to the game, as the usage is fairly low. Please provide recommendations on stabilizing the frames per second value for the game if possible.

And the final technical issue I would like to clarify with your help concerns the text scroll speed during the visual novel segments of the game. As of now, there is no way to pause or slow down the scrolling of the text during the visual novel segments, and the scrolling speed is so fast that I can barely keep up with the text despite being able to read the English text quite fluently, and more often than not the text vanishes before the characters even have the time to finish their respective dialogue sentences. This can sometimes cause sound desync in my case. Unfortunately, I cannot provide any proof of this as I do not have the capability to record a video while in-game. However, this issue seems to have affected many users across the Steam forum. So in this case, I most likely will be one of the many people asking the question: will the text speed be adjustable in future patches? Is it possible to slow the text scrolling speed at least a bit so it is more convenient to read or to an extent that the dialogue synchronizes with the text? Please look into this issue because it detracts from the enjoyment of the game in a major way (at least in my case).

I am looking forward to receiving a prompt response from you, especially regarding the (apparently) missing DLC content, as this is by far the most pressing issue for me because I do not know whether I placed or processed my preorder incorrectly and whether or not I will receive any future DLCs free of charge as a result of me purchasing the Tailor-Made Limited edition.

I would also like to humbly ask you to acknowledge the receipt of this email by any convenient means (auto-reply, confirmation, etc.).

Hoping for a positive resolution and successful further communication,

Yours sincerely,

Alexandr "Alex2806" Gusev

I seem to have a huge drop in frame rate when on battery power, doesn’t happen for Estival Versus.

since i assume this one using UE4 as engine (it just from a hunch based on UI etc)
i believe it won't do good using battery plan, better switch it to high performance
while earlier game is not using UE4 as engine i believe, so it's fine

Did anybody get the Miyabi DLC with the Limited Edition? Or is it separate for Steam release? If so, when will it become available?

I've just made another "discovery". Apparently, locking the game to 30 FPS with in-game settings slows the visual novel segments to their normal, readable scrolling speed, but makes the game borderline unplayable due to input lag. Capping it at 60 FPS smoothens the gameplay but accelerates the text in VN segments so much that it becomes very hard to read, and the dialogue starts "lagging behind". I would be very grateful if someone who has the capability to test this and record an in-game video posted the video here so the devs could see it. Could anybody here create a short video of the 30vs60 FPS text speed comparison, please?

No, 30 fps doesn't solve the VN issue. It just slows down but the voices still getting cut short, progressing on its own, and yeah the game is too slow to be playable.

Seems developers have no idea with FPS issues, but this issue makes many people's game unplayable include of me. If they really don't want to fix it, I think I'll have no choice but refund the game. Because I even cannot play it normally.

Thanks for the correction, Monterossa. I just hope the devs see this.

Encountered a bug on mission 5-5 on the Hanzo story. Clothing damage seems to be disabled on this fight (which I assume is intentional), and it's causing the shinobi transformation to not animate properly. https://i.imgtc.com/8ZZba87.jpg

Suggestion: Would it possible that changes to the characters in the dressing room are ported over to the characters in the Ninja room similar to EV?

Besides the text moving automatically & too fast in the visual novel segments, the main issue i'm only really having is that EVERY time i go into training mode, and then exit it, the game crashes straight to desktop. I've been running this game flawlessly besides that one issue. I had a few other weird crashes to desktops after exiting a mission once or the dressing room one other time, but those haven't happened since v1.01 came out.

Specs:
i5-4690k @ 3.5GHz
Nvidia GTX1060 6GB (EVGA)
16GB RAM
Windows 8.1

Keep up the great work! :whyioughtta:

Regarding the FPS issue. In my case I definitelly am sure that the problem is the Anti Virus Protection. I was using Kaspersky and did get sometimes around 25fps. With Avast on the otherhand i stayed at roughly 50fps. and with no protection i stay at rock solid 60.

my specs:
CPU: Ryzen 5 1600
GPU: GTX 1060 6GB
RAM: 8GB 2x4GB
OS: Win10 Pro 64 Bit
