Who's the dead guy?
So you know when you start a new game and in the lighthouse there's the dead man with the bag and a bullet hole in his head who's clearly been tourtured, well who was he? I've collected all the voxiphones and beat the game and we're ever given any explantaions to who he was or why he's killed? Anyone know or was it just a plot hole?
I have a few ideas but nothing soild. No vox uniform so he's not vox but i can't really understand this part of the game and it bugs me.

He's a guy Comstock left at the lighthouse to intercept Booker, but the Luteces took care of him first.

Lighthouse guard that was meant to stop Booker. The Luteces took care of him.

Killing him seems a bit dark for the Luteces. Especially knifing him in the face through a bag. They might have arranged for this guy to have been neutralized, but I don't think they'd explicitly want him killed - and certainly wouldn't do that personally.

I mean, really - can you see either of the two actually killing people?

They possibly hired someone to kill him.

Spoiler
Well, the whole reason they brought Booker to Columbia was because they wanted revenge against Comstock for turning on them.

The lighthouse scene at the start was a hallucination.

Interisting question. Once you asked it, it does seem out of place for the Luteces to have done it. I can picture their conversation going something like...... "I find it very disagreeable that comstock had us killed...... I think it would have been much more productive if he had just killed himself...... thats a very good idea, why dont we go back and ask him to kill himself...... or at least another version of himself."

I am now thinking that the Luteces did not kill the man under the bag, comstocks men did. But the Luteces put the bag over his head to hide him because it was another Booker Dewitt. They also put his hands behind him so you can't see the "AD" mark. Remember the sandwich board for the coin toss, thats how many Bookers they have gone through so far.

Thanks for getting the wheels in my brain turning again, I loved this game.

Interesting ideas. After you get in the action you simply forget that guy, the OP doesn't. Since when we first time play the game feels OK and normal that tortured guy. "Don't dissapoint us" could be that man from NY who send us for the girl. We think it's a warning for us. And after we hit Columbia we doesn't gave much attention to him.
Playing second time the whole lighthouse feels weird of course. :D Nothing was hallucation in the game, only Booker agenda "bring us the girl and wipe away the debt". Only that repeated line was a hallucation, since he already made that bargain, just his brain make that deal real and actual.

Someone else blew my mind with this on another comment thread - basically, you play through the game as the successful Booker, instead of one of the 113 the Luteces had already sent through in different realities who all died in their quest (one of whom allied with Slate and became a martyr for the vox, for example).

The sandwich board scene is the Luteces testing their theory of probability in parallel universes - that the outcome of chance at a specific point will be the same across all the different universes that are identical (up until that point)

Heres my Top Ten ideas for why theres the dead guy in the Lighthouse:

10. He's the last guy who asked Ellen DeGeneres out on a date.

9. Oh no, you killed Kenny!

8. He's the reason you can't have a BB gun for Christmas.

7. Because Detroit can't have all the murders.

6. Delivery guy who wouldn't honor the "30 minutes or it's free" rule on the pizza.

5. He's the guy who cancelled "Must See TV" on NBC.

4. Congratulations! You found Jimmy Hoffa!

3. Stiffler's Dad.

2. Just another unexplained stiff, brought to you courtesy of the NSA.

1. He's the guy who told us the DLCs would be out in May!
