For me each has their own place. Bioshock 1 had a great twist story and gave us Andrew Ryan, Sander Cohen and Rapture. Bioshock 2 had some great combat though the story wasn't so hot. But it also gave us Minerva's Den which had a GREAT story. Bioshock Infinite gave us Booker and Elizabeth and a relationship between the two characters that is fantastic. sm

Bioshock 1 had a great story but average gameplay.

Bioshock 2 had a really touching story and the best gameplay out of all 3 Bioshock games.

Bioshock Infinite had an amazing story, average gameplay, but amazing character relationships.

All 3 games had great music, atmosphere etc. Honestly I would rate them all equally but if I have to go from favourite to least favourite it would probably be

1.Bioshock 2
2. Bioshock Infinite
3. Bioshock 1

BioShock Infinite being linked to the original BioShock anyway (if you've played the DLCs, you'll know what I mean), I like all of them. But if I had to choose, it would be Bioshock 1 & 2.

All of them are great, but for me, it's:

Infinite > 1 > 2

It's mostly personal preference as to which is better but:

BS1 feels rushed and incomplete. It tends to leave me hanging. But it has sound problems I just can not cure.

BS2 feels much more polished and engaging. But it sometimes crashes a lot.

BSI has the most polished and complete of them all plus it runs perfectly. But the DLC is the best. Period.

Are you using Win 10/8?

One without the other is incomplete.

i say they are all kinda equal. bio 2 had a very gameplay focused idea and infinite had a very story driven idea, and then bio 1 mixes them together perfectly.

Bioshock 1 has just the best story and the best intro, they kinda wanted to give infinite an intro with the same impact but unlike infinite b1 it doesnt loose that atmospheric charme in the later game. B2 was very similar to b1 and gameplay wise it was better but the story development wasnt as good as in b1 it also had an in my opinion very cheap final fight while b1 had a nice old school boss fight. Infinites story was also good and its ending was also nice, if I would have to rank those games I would say b1>bI>b2, but all three games are great and very close together its like giving one of them a 10/10 and the other one a 9,9/10

I am using Win X but methinks that is not the issue. I am playing BS2 right now and it might be that it runs worse at higher frame rates. There is something odd going on there. In Afterburner-->Rivatuner I have the frame rate globally capped at 150 fps and that is more or less where these games run with vsynch off.
Now normally higher fps puts more load on the GPU but BS2 loads the CPU instead and this might be the problem as when I turned on vsync it semed to stop crashing. Still looking into this.

You can play Bioshock 1 or Infinite first. It really does not matter any. Just make sure to play Bioshock 1 before playing the BSI DLC Burial at Sea. As for comparing the BS series to FarCry or Borderlands it's a little like comparing apples to oranges. They are rather different types of games. sm

I'd recommend starting with 1, but you can can go for Infinite first if you want.

Far Cry and Borderlands are both open world FPS games. Bioshock is much more linear, as you go through levels. Bioshock is a linear shooter with a focus on story and atmosphere that's still fun to play. Whether or not it's better than Far Cry 3 is debatable. Just don't expect any of the craziness you'd get from those open world FPS games.

Infinite - The reason is I could find many references related to today´s and past political situations and characters in game has own broad political views from extreme left to extreme right, story has many layers then previous Bioshock games. I like the atmosphere, assets, music and feeling of that world. If I had a chance, I wouldn´t have been destroyed it like main character did.:devilskiss:

My subjective opinion:

Bioshock 1 - Best atmosphere by a long shot.Story was good (but not great)
Bioshock 2 - Best gameplay
Bioshock 3 - best technically but the worst in all other areas.

I've admittedly not played 2 yet, but I've played a lot of 1 and 3. There are things I like about each - I think 3 has better pacing and I like the overall look and feel of the game more. 1 is a bit more coherent though, and was a bit more groundbreaking in its day. Which one I play depends on what experience I'm looking for - 1 is a lot more frenetic and crazy in terms of the experience... underwater walls buckling... insane screaming people everywhere... a den of madness. Both games have great cultural commentary, and both are heavy-handed with it, but 3's is a bit more overt. I guess overall I prefer 3 - but the world of gaming would simply be incomplete without Bioshock 1. Honestly, I recommend them all. If you can only get one for now, I'd recommend the first to set the foundation - there's plenty to discover there that gets expanded upon in the sequels.
