Myu for instance comes with some of the lowest actual output due to requiring a modicum of aiming for most of her skills, constant repositioning and poor self sustain.
Another point, her strongest skills come with a pretty nast wind up which can lead to get hit or outright miss a good portion of the skill's damage (i.e kali's execution).
Her basic attack is supposed to be the best but you're barely going to capitalize on it for one since burst / spamming skills off CD is king, and even if you could that's nowhere near the output of skills.
Mana is also down there, one of the main reason she often grabs MVP is because there's basically no aim required so it's much easier to land your skills to their full extent.
AoE also means as soon as there's more than one target her dps score is easily bloated.
There are also a fukken lot of cheaters playing Mana.
If you see a Mana just sit there facetanking dual griffons and somehow racking 85% total damage, chances are they're cheating.
Bart has a lot of sustain and don't get me wrong he still can seemingly be a decent damage dealer, i don't know that character a lot but from what i can tell the base stats simply aren't there to compete in the dps department (at high gear level).
Up there would be Loki, Xenock and Tanya.
Loki can be somewhat compared to Myu in terms of rythm, but unlike Myu she has the means to stay glued to her target which means much more consistent output.
Xenock just hits like a truck.
Tanya comes with both nasty burst and sustained damage which is pretty easy to land.
Note that all of this is pretty pointless at the end of the day.
The difference is give or take a few seconds more or less during abyss battles.
There are also variables such as party buffs from Myu and Xenock, both of which are invaluable for your team, and tend to skew the results in favor of your sustained dps teammates.
All in all just pick a character you like, the only question you should ask yourself is to what degree you want to mix survivability and damage.
If you go for full blown dps then you squish in 2 hits no matter what character you play.
Mana=Tanya>>>>>Loki=Myu>Xenock>Bart
Mana and Tanya are generally the same in terms of DPS.
Mana(Sorceress) can fire and forget with Lightning Strike, Frozen Heart, Frostbite.
Mana can also Burst DPS with Psychokinesis, Bonfire, Blizzard, and Laser Rain in quick succession.
Tanya(Gunner) has the absolute strongest burst DPS in the game, with Out of my Way! being both DPS and sustained damage, but her power lies in Fire in the Hole! and Follow me! Until we get skill cancels, she is tied with Mana. After we get skill cancels, however, Tanya becomes the strongest character, being able to skill cancel her most damaging, but vulnerable skills(Hail Storm, All Hands ahoy!). Keep in mind that Tanya's burst damage requires her to stand still for about 2.5 seconds, which can be risky
Xenock(Swordsman) can pull some crazy DPS, but most of his damaging skills require him to stand still, which can be really bad for anyone who isn't familiar with proper positioning, or is not running a tank build.
Loki's(Fighter) damage comes entirely from whether she can land Ki Blast or not. If she misses this attack, her DPS drops tremendously, and you might as well not have fought to begin with.
Alternatively, you can cycle through her short cooldown skills, and make her deal decent sustained damage through a flurry of hits, but don't expect to get MVP with this method.
Loki's attacks, at least her hardest-hitting ones, leave her EXTREMELY vulnerable. Use with caution, and learn positioning if you want to play her, or die within the first 10 seconds trying to look cool. Mostly desired in parties for her 30% damage buff, rather than damage.
Myu(assassin)... Myu is alright. She can be good, but it requires precision to maximize her DPS. Most of her skills require her to be standing a little bit away from the target so that all the hits register. Standing in the wrong spot sacrifices DPS. Even then, she deals very poor damage compared to all the other characters-- her DPS relies solely on her ultimate. If you can build it fast enough, she will tear through enemy HP with it. Aside from that, she's a very bad character, both in survivability and damage, even gets out-dpsed by a decent Bart player. Same as Loki, mostly desired in parties for 40% crit buff, rather than damage.
Bart(Knight) has the shortest skill cooldowns in the game, and also the highest base MP regen, meaning he can do plenty of attacks and have the resources to supplement them. While not overly strong, because of his innate abilities, he can keep up in damage with other characters(but only scores MVP if he's the only one alive). Great for beginners to Dragon spear, an alright choice for veterans.
Muscarine's evaluation is half right, half wrong. A Bart, Myu, and Xenock cannot dps a boss down anywhere near as fast as a Mana, Tanya, or Loki can.
Typically, the top three are Mana, Tanya, and Loki, for simple reasons.
Mana=Dump spells out and reposition whenever
Tanya=Highest damage within 3 seconds
Loki=Highest single-hit damage(at great risk).
And no, what was described as "The difference is give or take a few seconds more or less during abyss battles." is completely wrong.
The difference between Mana and Tanya is within a few seconds, however, everyone else is usually a minute or more slower than Mana and Tanya(with similar high-end equipment).
I've had plenty of matchings where I would outdps parties comprised of Mana and Tanya, while playing as Bart.
Tier listing is just a basis for what character is good or not, play whoever you find the most fun.
