AI's terrible diplomacy
So, I'm at war with Britannia at the moment, having taken Samarobriva from them. Every turn, they have a Diplomat send a trade deal for Trade Rights and an Alliance to me. I accept, and in the same turn, they have an army attack Samarobriva, effectively cancelling their own deal. What the hell?

They are dangerous, mad and hairy beyond reason. You were a fool to trust them ;)

The best you can hope for in an alliance is for them to declare war on your enemy before they betray you.
maybe they want a alliance but where they control that town try giving it to them see if that helps

I tried to peace out with Gaul and they wouldnt have any of it. Even trying to give them 31k in gold.

From my opinions i think this is somewhat clever as Britania have almost taken over the northern part of Gaul and mopped the floor with Germania (I dont know how).

So from that and the fact we have seeminly been in this purpetual war, they want their stuff back, and wont declare peace because they are too small.

I think its odd. but greece wanted peace from me for far less even when the other roman familes took everything from them, myself included with taking Sparta, and they are somewhat stuck in Pergamon now as a true city state :D

If they never accepted a ceasefire, I'd get that. But literally EVERY turn they'd ask for a ceasefire, get it, AND ATTACK ME BEFORE MY TURN. Finally just went and wiped them out which completed my Julii campaign.

The remastered diplomacy is supposed to have some sort of check to prevent immediate betrayals but it doesn't really seem to be working.

Accept this deal or we attack - pay them and get attacked anyway...

Ceasefires are great as the AI betrays them immediately. Britannia seems to be stuck in the loop of charging full stacks into my walled cities, die, request a ceasefire, and then throw another full stack at a wall city...

yep, weird diplomacy indeed, i ally with britons as the Julii, ok, for a few turns. They ally with gauls who have only one town left in iberia and then they betray me. I wanted to conquer Iberia first but guess i'll move north instead...

It seems a lot more intelligent than in the original to me. For example, I saw AI Seleucids got beat hard. Their response was requested AI Egypt to become a protectorate of them, despite not even being at war. Then, a few turns later the AI noted that my Brutii was the strongest power in its area so the Seleucids sent an alliance offer to me and offered to attack Egypt. Meaning the AI literally intended to use me to break out of its vassalage. I thought that was so cute that I played along and even saved the Seleucids by bribing an Egyptian army that was sieging down their last city faster than my armies could get there.

And note this was on VH/VH any other TW game of equivalent difficulty level just has the AI automatically hate the player.

So overall, this seems to be the most intelligent campaign AI of any TW game in terms of diplomacy. Even if M1TW still has the most clever war AI (or rather the campaign layout makes the AI behave better I suppose in that case)

just demand compensation all the time haha i agree it is annoying and they said there was something in place to stop immediate backstabs but i dont see it working

Frankly, Ceasefires should have a minimum amount of turns where you CAN'T attack each other.

i agree that would be nice like civ 5 for example has that for 10 turns. the devs said they did add in something to prevent backstabs but it doesnt seem to be working

Yeah, I was slightly disappointed in diplomacy improvements. It still seems to be almost the same as the original which lacked diplo. Total War titles have always had weak AI unfortunately.

I do see AI that at least asks for peace now when you are kicking their butt so that is a good sign.

They've buggered the diplomacy up since Spiff made that video cheesing the compensation mechanic. I've offered the ai three settlements and all my money, around 500,000 and they still won't settle past grievances.
