Conquered settlement buildings of a different culture
Pretext - Conquered a couple large towns. They have some buildings in them from their culture (barbarian in this case)

Q: Is there any way to demolish government buildings? Does it require some time or culture changeover? Are those settlements perma-nerfed due to inability to convert/demolish those buildings? They perform worse than my own civ's culture equivalent, and can't be upgraded...

Did I miss something? Or is this game design to slow/ devalue painting the map in your color?

Do you mean temples? IIRC only temples are really different. Town halls and such should not matter except for aesthetics.

In the old game you could right click on the building and menu would show which let's you delete it.

Not all buildings are able to be destroyed. You'll have to wait till the city expands and you get the upgraded buildings.
The one's that can be demolished have this icon

Yes, there is a way to demolish government buildings. You have to go to the "more information" tab on a specific building, then find the button with the hammer and click that. It will instantly demolish the building and refund you a bit of the denarii it took to build. I've found that, atleast on easy and medium difficulties, the culture debuff isn't a big deal as long as you demolish any shrines. If it's a large settlement or something you're planning on using alot, I would suggest just demolishing everything and building it back up. As for converting the culture of the building, I'm not sure - it might be tied to pops, but somebody else could probably answer that for you in more detail.

Thanks for you quick response. So the settlement just need to hit the next growth milestone? I will fast forward a few turns to see if this works. I am skeptical about the roads and farm buildings follow this trend, since they aren't directly tied to the growth milestones.

Thanks for responding. Yes you are right about most buildings having the "demolish" option, but what I am most worried about is the core buildings (government, walls, farm, and roads) not showing this option. I see someone said they may be able to be converted once the settlement reaches the next growth milestone, but I have not seen any evidence or personal testimony to confirm this.

The main building, walls, roads, farms, mines -> These are the 5 buildings that can't be destroyed ever. You can only change their culture if you upgrade them (after settlement upgrade).

And yes, that means if you conquer a city lategame that is already upgraded to the highest level you will have to deal with the wrong culture from these buildings indefinetly.

Oh come on. I know this is a remaster but this was the thing that turned be off rtw in the first place. You'd think that after what 17 years and they'd figure out how to get around that bs. Guess there's no point buying then.

They adjusted squalor. So yes even with these 5 buildings haveing a different culture its incredible easy now to have your city completly happy.

Ah I see, so it is a gain and a loss with a spice of timing on its permanency. I know min/max edgelords and OCD people are going to cringe at this realization. Thanks for the knowledge.

Yea, no this is still bs. Unless someone makes a mod to undo this or they patch it, the game is going to be a hard pass for me. The squalor changes are clearly a cludge fix.

Not if they're Egyptian and you get the pyramid >.>
