70GB is insanely large vs the original less then 4gb. With the push to ssds developers really need to devote resources toward optimizing for space. Game sizes vs ssd space is ludicrous these days.

My 2tb 970 evo plus feels small when game sizes are 70 to 120gb these days. Anything above 2tbs carries an insane price.

Not to mention that this game is bigger then Total War Warhammer 2 with some of the dlc and races from the first game(57.5gb)

I'm confused by the size, but even small drives now are 500GB, got some real users in here using computers from from 2002 with 25GB hard drives LOL

Yeah and that 70 Gigs for one ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game takes up A FIFTH of your drive is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ridiculous. It's bloated as hell and is part of this dumb ass trend of developers not optimizing and compressing their games like they used to. The Original RTW+BI+Alexander is less than 4 Gigabytes. This is almost 20 times more than that. ...WHY???!!!!

Talk about a Champaign problem if ever I saw one. Get a damn terabyte SSD, it's2021. If you can't afford it then STOP BUYING PC GAMES and save up for one, they are only $100-200US depending on which. People will b***h and moan about anything. The game come out in days and what...you expect them to pull it and literally chop out a TON of code and features to reduce it's size? Are you going to pay for the time and effort it takes? 70 gigs isn't much. Delete something else and man up.

Yeah doesn't mean your standard is reasonable..because it's not and you are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ over nothing. I don't like to say stuff like this but you are being a damn crybaby.

compression isn't chopping out anything.

Um no game sizes are a problem these days. Fortnite for example ballooned to around 120gb and then magically they were able to drop it to 32gbs. COD is in the same boat.

They need to have ways to reduce size:
reducing clutter,
compression,
optional high res texture packs,
other.

Whats the point in installing 4k textures if you are not using them?

The games you mentioned reduced size by only installing parts of the game, or merged some crap that were very similar.

Reducing clutter means basically nothing
Compression already gets achieved in general (but it can also do so much in general, you need to keep it's quality)
Optional high res texture packs are a way to cut some of the higher resolutions yes

To bring up your point of "4k textures", well do you want them to just give you low, medium and high options and if you want anything else just go download them ?

Nothing of it was magical, you can do some optimization with a lot of things. Cutting a huge chunk of data (randomly) always means they just don't install all the extra stuff anymore on your PC. With Fortnite this can probs be explained by all the MTX crap they have. Most likely they just merged a lot of textures (as example) with each other that were similar and people not really noticing.

The reason he mentions 4k is cuz only 5 % of players for rome total war remastered have sufficient hardware to even use 4k properly as most people don't have 4k monitors

Ah yes. It is completely normal and reasonable to spend $100-200 to play a HD remaster of a 6gb game. Especially when the 6gb version still exists and is playable on the same platform.

Some people really need to lay off the trash talk and apply a little common sense.

Then you talk about resolution not textures, HD texture packs just increase further detail and resolutions which is only really shine when you play on a 4k monitor. So there is no such thing as "4K textures", like some people keep trying to use that buzzword.

Irony is always great. Anyway that 17 year old game isn't the same as the remaster. Higher fidelity and the extra textures in different resolutions will need more space.
