Well, that won't do it. I gotthe idea. Just really tough to have enough Cav left to turn the tide of whole battle.

If you try to help allies early they just route.

Baaaah It's so hard xD. I love it. I just want to sweep them from the field than deal with those Elite troops last.

The Theban elites seem invincible to cavalry, but by isolating their units and attacking from multiple sides you can pick them apart.

Big issue is I hit from back and Side have them surrounded but they drop pikes and kill tons of cav I try to run from front when they switch sides. and focus back. But they just get surrounded and survive long enough to take my cav down to like 1/5 strength.

for me with cavalry, in the regular game at least, i simply have one unit charge straight forward, another unit attack each of the flanks, and another attack the rear ... this seems to work for me since the one unit is just a distraction that is normally going to die anyway ... also, i just run around a lot until the units are out of formation.

Chaeronea is the hardest historical battle in the game. They give you a small gap between the sacred band and other army right at the start when the other greek army runs upto the macedonian army. You have a window of like 10 seconds to get some cavalry behind the pike line through this gap .

This should give you at least a chance. I'm pretty sure it's impossible to beat on very hard difficulty though.

Even if you somehow manage to kill the sacred band you need to destroy rest of the greek army which after depleting almost all of you cavalry is pretty much impossible.

Adding insult to injury the greek ai army is effectively immortal against your macedonian allied troops as long as the sacred band exists so unless you kill the sacred band quickly you have absolutely no hope in beating this battle.

Impossible it is not, but you need some luck. Meaning it can take several retries on VH

I know I put at least 10 times I've killed the Sacred Band but the rest of the army is the tricky part. Just being efficient against Sacred band and maybe assisting the rest of your army a little without triggering a route to prevent all your infantry from being gone before Sacred band is wiped out

Possible on VH but requires enough luck for your allies to hold out for 2 mins. Sneak Alexander around, and only do rear charges with him, ideally two of them before you charge the rest. then go straight for the enemy general, then you just kite the greek army and charge them in the flanks when they are tired.

It is pretty random you need to get two charges with Alexander each killing like 20 or 30 men each time or less the sacred band won't rout.

With the amount of RNG luck needed to complete this mission, especially on very hard mode, I deemed it worthy for myself to skip it altogether. It is also very annoying telling your cav to pull out but 2-3 troops get stuck in the stack and the rest of the unit reengages the unit. Especially when after defeating the loverbois there will be times you will be up against 4-5 units of full health hoplites (thanks to Philip II telling his phalangists to cut their pikes in half before battle like a sawn off shotgun, for some reason I noticed phalangists don't have long pikes in this battle) and all you have left is a single unit of javelinmen, you start to question what kind of a sadistic mind put this in the game as it is. Not to mention if you send out a unit to kill their general (which has no effect as I found it btw) sometimes the narrator will tell you that your troops are disheartened because you didn't engage the sacred band. This happens only sometimes though. Like I said, you need godly RNG, strangely LegendofTotalWar did it on the first try, because one of the sacred bands went on to fight phalangists. You have to cross your fingers for that to happen.

Right at the beginning is a super tight gap you can squeeze your cav into and flank the sacred band. On VHVH it took me quite literally 4 hours of grinding to get that one battle done for 100% achievements
