In M2 we could even send princesses on missions and in Rome1 you could marry them to generals if I am not mistaken?
One big benefit was that you could use them to marry an adopted general to make sure their children got the royal ties trait, and your noble line wasn't considered non-royal or something, since generals could only have 4 children adopted or not, you could screw yourself over there by accepting adoptions. Children and adoption offers tended to keep happening so long as there was a space for the family sized compared to the cities size or something. I imagine Rome might have worked on the same system and probably still will.
One thing I'm little worried about looking at the video that was posted is if they really are just going to use blank silhouettes for all of the non generals.

So I am very much expeceing at least the same models to be lifted back in
It would be a brand new concept if they dont give portrait to non-general or governor characters.... but I am strangely ok with that as long as there is a cool placeholder icon replacing them and its not the same for males and females
The reason for that is that these characters are frankly not relevant yet and not showing their model can actually help keep track of those that do already have a presence on the map.
Bow the reason this might not work at all though is when an important and experienced character is not assigned anywhere - that character wold then loose its image and hurt recognition ... so there might be a good idea in this but I guess the safer route is just to give all family members character icons
BTW: I can hardly wait to get aging character icons again :)
The original portraits were very good and they all need to be ported into this game but there were often too few of them around and including +2 for each culture group might be enough to resolve that limitation + give the game a fresh look
Unless they can perfectly replicate the look of the original portraits, then I very much doubt it.
this. there arent portraits for the wives and children anymore. kinda cheap if you ask me.
