2.0.2 is an AMAZING patch
Thank you. I'm so happy with the new patch.

This is really a dream come true for Rome fans.

I like it as well. There isn't much I can complain about at the moment.

The UI is not going to change, but I am used to that now. I am not getting the Sons of Mars prologue back, and I have accepted that. I wish they had not removed wonder/assassin vids and the old load screens, but mods are available for that. I miss my chatty Victoria during my management phases. But pathfinding definitely improved-I think it is better than the original. The AI seems to be acting more sensibly-again better than the original imo. Audio is back. No crashes (at least for me). The RTR:IS modders are cranking and should turn out the next version in a week or so. Really excited for that.

So, yes. This is RTW improved and playable on today's systems. Pretty happy with that.

I noticed some AI behavior what I didnt see before. Like: Roman factions offering peace deals when they know they lost (most of their cities besieged or captured) on very hard difficulty. AI allies not betraying you left and right. Some smarter?/better? AI pathing and battle AI. Im pleased with the changes. But there is still some wierd stuff I saw, like: while withdrawing, half of the Roman army didnt leave a.k.a stayed put and died to my arrow fire.

OK, I must have missed the memo, what did this patch do in particular that's so amazing?

Nothing really, it just improved in most areas (pathfinding, AI, UI, modding capabilities).

Fixed crashes, improved BAI, CAI, mod functionality, UI, and quality of life improvements.

This was a really good patch. Sorry you can't see that.

I agree. After being so let down after the release of the game, I've started playing it again, especially with RTR installed and have been pleasantly surprised. Yes the AI will trip up every now again and whilst I prefer the vanilla UI, the tweaks they have made at least make the UI experience palatable.

It is impressively long patch notes list. For a game this old. Seems someone is trying to make a decent game of this.

It is awesome, and I am even more excited for what they have thought about in future (co-op and full MP, removal of old 21 faction limit from 2004, map editors etc.) because that would be wonders for modding.

Personally I never had any issue with the new UI, it has been a long time since I played original.

I must say I noticed better AI and pathfinding, really good stuff. Barbarian camps were nightmare in the earlier versions.

Does this require a new campaign or do these improvements also show up in an existing campaign I've got running?

All changes are immidiate in all your campaigns. I don't think there is a single one that would need to start a new one.

I've seen quite a lot of positive changes too. The enemy A.I really does seem to offer ceasefire treaties when they are on the losing side of a war, something they never did in the older Total Wars up until Shogun 2. In general the A.I is more accepting of offers - in the original Rome they'd usually only accept trade, alliance and map offers. I even got the Julii to accept an offer to attack an enemy faction - something they'd never do in the old version.

I've also seen the A.I act more aggressively. The Gauls, even when on the losing side of a war have taken some of their warriors to capture rebel settlements, and try to retake lost towns. Before they'd just sit there passively as the player and other factions would steamroll over them.

I play Numidia right now, and in the beginning Egypt came for my eastern territory. I traded the territory for Seleucid on the terms they declare war to Egypt. Not sure is this right or wrong but it was fun at least lol.

CPU also do give warnings in advance if they become irritated of you.

Overall I think this is a pretty nice game I begin to appreciate more and more as I play it. The most annoying thing right now is that you can't always in "troop view" press ctrl-a to select all units, you need to click some unit card first. That is extremely irritating.

They thought about enabling coop for campaign?
