Lost Unbreakable Knife to Tyrant

Spoilers. As the title says, stuck The tyrant with my knife in the prison area. When Ada hit him with the SWAT van I couldn't find it. Any idea how to recover it? Or is he not actually dead yet? I had stuck the Big armed boss with it but he dropped it near the ladder when he fell. Is it unrecoverable now?

It seems to vary whether or not it shows up as a dropped item. But you definitely can lose it for good at certain parts.

It also annoys me how you can't use it to cut the tape in the police station.

IMO it's fair game since it's a 'cheat' item that you're not supposed to have in a normal playthrough anyway

That would sequence break the game, and it wouldn't work properly. It's not exactly like REmake3 where you can obtain certain items early by buying the items in the shop after you complete the game. As they aren't tied to the progression, rather you can get certain items earlier.
