Right now there does not seem to be much of a difference among top players, although those on PC tend to eventually lean towards kb+m.
But then I can't aim for crap with the mouse either in comparison to when I was a kid.
True, though it also matters what type of Game it is. Third Person Games (or also Games like Jump'n'Runs etc) often needs the precision of the movement, and IMHO the stick does a better job.
Atleast on this i have kinda disagree with that. I would go as far and say if you need onpoint Aiming then sure, Mouse have an Advantage over Controller. There is actually one concept which i consider to have a similiar experience, and that's Splatoon with it's Gamepad plus Motion Controls, though you really need to get used to this and if you have problems with an shaky hand, it influence your experience and you are better off without motion.
If it comes down to "fast" Camera-Controls, i would say it's more up how much used you are to the certain controls. (and again, it's also an matter of implementation). If i look at one of my Friends, who is an pure Gamepad Gamer if it comes down to Shooters, he have faster Camera-Movement than me with M/K and if you wouldn't see the inputs and watch him on a stream, you wouldn't be sure if he play with Gamepad or Mouse. In other Hand i saw some "pros" at Counter Strike etc, which slowed their Camera-Movement so down, that you might think at the first glance, they play with Gamepad.
Which IMHO really can be an issue for that, is, if you play Games where you need to use often the A, B, X, Y Inputs(like jumping), and also need to move often the Camera. However i saw some pretty clever Control-Concepts like Dying Light which put jumping on the Bumbers, and than (atleast if you are used to Controllers) faster Camera-Movement like M&K is also possible.
I have 0 beef with how RE2 plays with a controller, and no wonder - it's made with controller in mind.
But the aiming process is difficult because of the crit mechanic where you have to wait for the shot to be the most precise and the crit to be possible. That combined with the necessity to adjust for the irratic zombie movement makes aiming stressful. Which is arguably beneficial for survival horror, but less effective than mouse aiming no matter how good you are.
The reason? I'm too lazy to dig around for my gamepad, and hook it up to my PC.
then i quickly swapped to M+K
for aiming mouse is obviously way better
for moving gamepad is best
i wish i could use gamepad + mouse, some people would find it weird but using your left hand with the joystick for moving / interactions and the right one with the mouse for aiming / moving camera is quite helpful if the game "supports" it
( nowadays games give exclusive control to either gamepad or M+K so it's glitchy to use both, like in this remake, therefore not possible )
