"Digital video cassette" *may contain spoilers*
The tapes you find off the soldiers later in the game are called "digital video cassettes"... I'm not an expert or anything, but aren't reel to reel cassettes by definition the antithesis of digital...?

okay, okay... but then both videos seem be "shot" from first person perspectives of the soldiers...

the tape also clearly looks =/= to the size of a standard VCR cassette. the videos were shot from first person. So, here I am, trying to picture what kind of camera aparatus these guys had mounted on them that would be large enough to fit a full sized VCR tape...and they were still able to wield their weapons with both hands... hue

quibbling I know, just thought this was particularly funny logic pitfall

That is funny.
USBs too.
They had little mini vhs tapes at the time. I think they were called digital video, I don't remember it's been a long time. They were kind of the mid step between full digital and analog. Still not sure if the recorders had little mounts, but I'm guessing that would have been a selling point.

They had USB's in 1998... USB first came out in 1996, wasn't standard til 99-2000 though.

In addition to the above mentioned "reel to reel" methods of storing digital video were still a thing well into the naughties: one very common one was the "DV" or Digital Video format, which were often smaller than the tapes in this, but still stored data on a reel rather than flash memory chips that we think of storing digital media on today. DV also started in 1995 so again, would fit in with the timeline of the game.

Yep, this is not set in the real world. In other games set around 1997-1999 you can see TFT monitors most everywhere where they are not going for the authentic look, even though they also just popped up in the real world back then as hyper-expensive new monitor types. Heck, people tend to forget that people in 2013 in RE6 had holophones, not smartphones.

lots of anachronisms tbh. the particular type of water bladder the uss soldiers have on their backs were not available in the 90s
