S rank question
Do you guys recommend getting the magnum? I'm 1 hour into the run and am near the start of the sewers ( In the room with the chess socket door puzzle).

Should I go back for the magnum or do you think I'll be fine with just the pistol (extended clip & muzzle upgrades right now) and the shotgun.Questioning whether I might have skipped too much in the sake of speed and whether I'll have enough resources to complete the game.

Right now I have 34 handgun bullets and 10 shotgun shells total. So I was thinking of going back for the magnum but not sure if I'd have time since I'd have to run back to the mansion, grab the book to get the ruby and then go to the club door to get the box to get the usb and then go back for the mag.

What you guys think?

If you are on A run you should be fine. You have an hour and a half left. The labs only take 30 minutes or so provided you know the codes and dont have to do multiple laps of the garden.

The sewers also dont take so long provided you don't mess around. If you only go for the plugs you can be done in like 20 minutes

You can easily beat the game without the magnum, I don't even pick up the shotgun until I get to the lab when going for speed. Just remember you don't have to kill every zombie you come across, a shot to the head or leg to stagger and running past also works

Yeah but if he is only trying for S+ he doesnt need to skip weapons. You can get every weapon and upgrade and still easily make the time provided you know the route. If he was trying to get a WR speedrun then sure skip over weapons but just for s+?

The Magnum is definitely a nice addition, especially on higher difficulties, making boss fights much easier. If you are only an hour in you should be fine to go get. In the end, It all comes down to whether or not you've memorized the location of all non key items, in which order to collect them, and whether or not you feel confident that you can fit them into your time limit.

By the time I got around to my s+ hc run, I felt that I could get pretty much everything in the police station and still finish under 2:30. I did everything except for the secret picture stashes and still had time to spare. It can be done, as long as you don't mess up your pathing too much or forget things.

Are you playing on Hardcore, Leon 1st run? In this case you should have enough time to get the magnum and even magnum upgrade+flamethrower ammo from the sewer's film to make your life much easier. But you don't need a magnum. Especially if you already in the sewers.

I would recommend you to check this playlist with S+ HC guides:

Well since first person said don't worry about it I just went ahead. This is just standard Leon A since I was just trying for S not S+ for the infinite ammo handgun unlock.

Just entered the Hive at 01:23:34 so I definitely think I can get this done as long as I don't run into a wall with my resources since I have about 30 bullets for my handgun and 6 in my shotty.

This is the second time I've seen this briefly mentioned. Does Leon's Shotgun really spawn in the Lab somewhere if you missed it earlier? Do any of Claire's?

I've also seen the same. I think that Claire's grenade launcher does the same.

If I understand you correctly, you are on Standard? If so, you have 3:30, not 2:30. It's very doable taking time to get the Magnum on Standard. 3:30 is a lot of time.

Yep, if you miss the shotty or GL it spawns in the security room

^Which to clarify is at the very start of NEST Lab. It is in the first room on the left after the triple security doors slowly open.

Definitely. I was able to clear everything possible at a fairly relaxed rate in my Leon A HC S+ run and have a save just before G2. I was just finishing the Ivy area with Mr. X chasing me and estimate I would have completed my run with 10-15 mins extra to spare easily but gotta redo from my last save due to a ridiculous bug. Definitely worth doing if you aren't confident you can beat G3 with just a knife, but very pointless if you do intend to knife only G3 (I'm not abusing knifes in this run so I looted, might try in Claire's).

magnum is not needed even for s+ rank, knives are a better option and get boss fights done faster
Truest Lord Pancake Feb 14, 2019 @ 10:29pm
I got S+ on A with Leon, and I skipped the magnum. I also had a little over a half an hour to spare. So you should have the time to do it. I actually did a bit of back tracking to get more flame fuel and things out of the labs, and the pouch you get from there. So time is on your side
talgaby Feb 14, 2019 @ 10:34pm
Are you on Standard? Then no, you are good without it.
Are you on Hardcore? Then it is recommended, along with the barrel extension and the laser sight you can get from the secret hiding place. Shooting out G3's eyes is a lot easier. It can even help a lot at G2.
Are you on B scenario? Then skip it since you won't have enough time unless you know the really tight and fast route.

By the way, for future reference: next time, get the weapon itself before the sewers. On A, the easiest time to get it is when you are going to the library to use the lever. On B, you can do the side trek either when you opened the fountain (going down the elevator and back up despawns the Tyrant) or at the same time as in A.

First thing to remember is ignore the portable safes, they take too much time to solve because they're random every game.

Best things to grab on Hardcore for speed:

If Leon:

Matilda:
Clip Expansion
Muzzle Break
Ignore the stock, not worth the inventory space it takes up.

Shotgun:

All of it.

Magnum:

Just the parts that make it do more damage that you get with the badge, forget the laser sight, takes too long to go grab and it's not worth it if you shoot it from a point blank distance.

If you're on game B with Leon, ignore matilda completely and just use the gun that uses the higher caliber rounds, it does twice as much damage as matilda... you just can't make ammo for it so save up your bullets.

If Claire:

SLS60:

All upgrades, gun is a beast end game.

Grenade Launcher:

The Stock thing, does way better damage with it and it's acquired along the way in that locker behind the first diamond key door to power the chiefs elevator.

SMG:

Ignore all upgrades for this gun, not worth the time to get either of them but do grab the gun as the DPS is nice against G2 and G4.

That gun in the trunk of that car in the parking garage can be completely ignored as well because it's total garbage, the clip upgrade for it is in that 2nd safe in the one 2nd floor office, which again, can be ignored.

On game B nothing really changes, you should continue to upgrade the SLS60 fully and use the 6 shooter for the first half of the game for quick zombie kills... that's about it.
